Root Canals and PD

Please Respond. How many of you had root canals and or abscess before getting diagnosed with PD? For your info, I am 39, diagnosed with PD Dec 18. I’ve had 4 root canals, 2 abscesses, and 2 implants. I had a close friend with bad PD (way worse than me and was suicidal) basically cured himself when he found a cavitation from a root canal that was missed by dental X rays but found from thermal imaging scan. My father who also had PD got his root canals removed and didn’t help. Not saying it’s a cure but something to look into. Root canals work on the basis that your body can handle a low grade chronic infection. Parkinson’s is very complex, most likely lots of different causes, but for my friend it was enough, he has 0 symptoms. He had clinical diagnosed PD ( University of Utah ) and responded well to c/l.

My friend is a farmer (toxic chemicals) and right before he was diagnosed he painted farm equipment without a respirator. He also started detoxing, but the miracle came when he had the failed root canal removed. It was over 20 years old and he had no pain.

I have had a thermal imaging scan as well that shows lots of heat from one of my abscess spots. I’m getting my root canals out, all of them. I’m not saying it’s going to cure me, but it may help. Hope this might help someone. It saved my friends life.

Problems with teeteh and gingivitis preceded my early PD hints (leg cramps, constipation, slow fecal transit) by several decades. By my 30s, I had enjoyed several root canals. My problems with teeth and gingivitis continued until recently. Solution: all remaining teeth were extracted.

I’ve never had a root canal. I’ve had extractions instead. I have terrible gums as I think many PWP have. I guess I’ll be a toothless old hag because no way will I risk root canals.

Hydrogen peroxide, 3% that you can get in a store works wonders. Makes your gums nice and healthy, no more bad breath, I dilute it to use in a waterpik. Also, your teeth are nice and white. If your saliva is thick & you gargle with it it helps to get rid of it. You can use it. Straight at 3% or you can dilute it with water.

My husband had a few extractions but no root canals. Oral health is a factor for many disease processes including heart disease. He had a terrible plaque problem which may have been related to his PD-drooling, mouth breather, etc. He went for cleanings 4 times a year.

My husband with Parkinson's had several root canals. When I first noticed his tremor, I told him to get rid of his amalgam fillings and have his root canals checked. He had them removed. There are many maladies that can be corrected by removing root canals and also checking with a 3D Xray for infections under crowns. RobertRowenMd on YouTube shows many people with back pain, etc., who were helped by correcting the infections in their mouth.

One of the contributors to Parkinson's, is toxins. The mouth emits toxins.

There has been some discussion about mercury vapor off-gassing from silver amalgam fillings. I happen to have had a ton of those, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Any idea where the current thinking is?

Amalgams give off mercury every time you chew or drink hot liquids. You need to go to a dentist who properly knows how to remove them with a dam.

I use a homemade toothpaste made out of baking soda and coconut oil.

Plaque is bacterial biofilm. NAC - N-acetylcysteine - breaks up bacterial biofilms. I compound my own toothpaste with NAC for this purpose. Dentist noticed a big difference.

Wow, fascinating. What's a good NAC dose? Tablets I assume? Maybe we others can't compound, but how instead to approach? Grind them in with commercial toothpaste?

NAC powder is readily available from Amazon via BulkSupplements.

Custom toothpaste aimed at breaking up bacterial biofilms:

The powder from one 00 size capsule of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) ph neutralized with 24% by weight calcium hydroxide, about 600 mg of NAC.

About .5 g of calcium ascorbate

One capsule of serrapeptase. The serrapeptase is expensive and probably optional.

This mixture has to be preserved using a few mL of 40% ethanol, otherwise known as vodka. Without the preservative it goes bad rapidly.

How long after you started using NAC toothpste did the dentist notice the effect on the plaque build up?

The next appointment which was some months later.

I’m confused when you say to remove the root canal. Are you saying to remove the crown and remaining border and root of the tooth itself? You can’t undo a root canal. If I were to do that I wouldn’t be able to chew my food. Most every tooth of mine has a root canal. I was blessed with horrible teeth. My dad and one brother have perfect teeth. I got all the yucky stuff. So far no Alzheimer’s which is rampant in my dad’s siblings and my dad and oldest brother. Besides the bad teeth and parkinsonism I have Factor V Leiden, Duputryns Contracture, dislocating knees leading to both knees being replaced and short stature being 4’10”. It all got dumped on me. My siblings are all short. I’m the only one with these other oddities. I’m done complaining. Going to bed. I do want an answer to my question. Thank you

You pull the tooth. You have to replace it with a bridge if you have stable teeth around it or an implant. It’s very expensive. I would suggest a thermal imaging scan to find the heat.

Hubby has plate with 2 teeth on it which he has had since his 20s. Doesn’t clean it well enough.

Your visits to the dentist did not cause your PD. I understand your complaint because the worst that can happen is to have multiple problems / illness stacked up at the same time. Sometimes I feel like something or some one is unfairly dishing out the bad stuff, but we know that is not reality.

My case 2 prostrate ops. heart stints, PD with toes curling, can only walk 100 feet. Arthritis in knees. swollen legs , crushed spine with tremendous back pain and kidney stones . and I have both the longevity gene and the happiness gene to give me a good chance to live to one hundred years old , 28 more years of torture. I used to be an athlete damn it.

I have found two things:

- Pain management can be successful without taking huge amounts of pain killers.

- Happiness is a frame of mind and attitude. I have said many times ,quoting Roger Miller:

"You can't roller skate in a Buffalo heard but you can be happy if you have a mind to."

Hi GymBag!!

Wow , my story very similar to yours! I have so many health problems I am one hot mess!! I don't really know what being a hot mess means lol but I have been called that a number of times by friends and neighbors.

I don't think I will live quite as long as you expect to but I will say this existence has become almost an unwelcome one for me. Recently having rotator cuff surgery to my dominant side was supposed to change things for the better. Three months post op I am still hoping to see improvement to my quality of life.

Pain management ???? Pray tell!!!

Happiness is definitely a frame of mind and attitude . I used to know happiness. I used to be very agile and strong.

I'm still trying. Alone.

Your words hit a nerve, inspiring at the very least.

Thank you and best wishes,

Sheila (mccshe)

If there is no correlation, how do you explain my friends experience. A chronic infection in your mouth could have nothing to do with PD? It did for him, not for me. What happens when you leave a piece of Raw meat out in the Sun? That’s what a root canal is. It’s funny how many experts they have in this board. Yes, with my history of Parkinson’s it’s most likely not going to help ( like my dad) However, their might be someone like my friend Neal whose life was saved. I know your not mean spirited in your post, but I’d be careful about being dismissive. I’m not spreading false hope, my dad was helped 0%.

Had a couple. And had chronic struggles with gingivitis and sensitive teeth. And one idiot dentist ignored my pain on a root canal he'd done, ignored it for many months until finally my complaint was strong enough to get him to go back, discovered an abscess big enough that by that time it required pulling the tooth, a major molar.

Hello, I have always thought that the start of my Parkinson’s was dental work. I had two failed root canal’s and a third root canal which did not fail. I also had a dental extraction. After the extraction my right arm turned blue and cold that arm has since started to have a tremor. I have also developed weakness in my right arm and my right leg. I believe that a dental spirochete Similar to a Lyme spirochete could be the cause of the Parkinson’s and the weakness. Treponema Denticola which is a common dental spirochete could have passed down through my bloodstream and into my brain depleting my body of Thiamine and dopamine. Many spirochetes thrive on many of the minerals and vitamins which are deficient in many Parkinson’s patients. Where do you live

38yroldmale in reply to Marcia123

I live in Utah. USA. That’s interesting. I live a small town. My mother growing up had good dental insurance. I believe my dentist growing up milked the insurance. I’m 39. Had 4 root canals between the ages of 10-21 and zero since. ( other than 2 failing) My family that stayed here had the same dentist. My 2 siblings that has better teeth have moved away and have had zero health problem. My mom had MS, my dad had Parkinson’s and my brother that stayed in town has Crohns. Extended family on both sides has had zero problems. Weird?
