My husband has had pd for 14 years now and about 5 yrs ago he developed a cataract on his right eye.He had it removed ,but it is now back again and he is now waiting to go back in to have it removed again.
I just wondered if anyone else has had eye problems and if it is related to PD or the meds.

cataracts can occur with anyone. I don't have PD and had mine removed several years ago. It does not come back in the operated eye unless it wasn't done properly the first time. During cataract surgery the entire lens is removed and replaced with an implanted lens. My husband who has PD has problems with blurred vision at times.
Once a cataract has been removed, it canot return. To cure them, the doctors flush away the original lens and replace it with an artificial one.
What does happen is that the membrane in the eye normally bonds with the new lens to form a watertight surface. Very occasionally, this bond is not successful, and you get an opaque film over the lens which stops it sending complete images to the optic nerves at the back of the eye. They do something to it with a laser, but often you have to wait months until it is large enough for them to operate. As a hint, I had my left cataract done just 12 months ago, and it has started forming the opaque film already. I am seeing my Surgeon at Moorfields in a couple of weeks.
I am not sure if the surgeon actually gave it a name, but I had my other eye done in November, and there is no sign of anything amiss in that one. The left eye had 3 surgical procedures early last year - that's how they spotted the cataracts. All were muscle or nerve related, so that is probably due to PD. But the cataracts are not PD related.

I had the left eye done one month ago and am waiting to have the right eye done in September. I don't think cataracts have anything to do with the PD, but there are a lot if other issues the can happen in people with PD and the eyes! And I have three of them! The cataracts was the only thing they could do anything about! I saw a Neuro-Opthomologist in the Chicago area.
I had cataracts about 8 years ago, before I was ever diaginosed or had any symtoms of PD. I had it in each eye and ever since they put the new lenses in, my sight has been great. So I don't think they are related.
Just my experiance, I don't know the other things that can happen to your eyes because of PD but would be interested in knowing.
PD may not cause cataracts but it can cause a number of eye problems, including blurred vision, dry eyes, and double vision, this last one being the one that can frequently force pwp to give up driving.
