acetyl L- Carnitine : Anyone experienced... - Cure Parkinson's
acetyl L- Carnitine
Never did anything for me as far as I could tell. Where did you see it improved symptoms?
On my first bottle. So far nothing but not hurting me either.
I've used it previously, but noticed no obvious benefit that I could relate to its use.
On the other hand, it has shown itself to be helpful for peripheral neuropathy caused by type 2 diabetes and other causes such as chemotherapy, especially when combined with alpha lipoic acid.
On the downside, it is known to cause sleeplessness in some people even when taken later in the day.

I'm on a mitochondria building regime to lessen 'abject' (great descriptive word by another poster) fatigue, and taking ALC, 3x day, with Alpha lipoid acid 2 xday, coq10, 200mg 1x day, 11/2 mg melatonin, and amala 2x a day, for about 12 days....so far nothing to report, but will give it a month, or two. I'll look for the researcher who recommended all this...
2 months later.....I'm still on everything except amla. So far nothing is helping with energy, but i'm continuing thru June. Added 1,000 mg carnosine, NADH, ppq.
I take L-Carnitine 500mg daily along with tyrosine, 5HTP, B6, B12, b1-500mg, NAC and also Q10 and other things like vit. D, etc. I'm not sure how it affects me on it's own but without the whole shebang I don't function as well. I notice a difference if I miss 2 days of the concoction which sometimes happens because of swallowing issues. It's just not worth quitting considering the mentally depressive effect going without does to me. Helps if taken with food. I believe 5-HTP is a winner too.
Thanks for your input rideabike. I am seeking more to add my regimen by natural ways.Did you read the post for AMLA herb? hope this would help decline some of your medicines, which is substantial in my point of view.
Yes it sounds like a good addition. Not stopping any supplements because from what I was like before compared to what I am now, it's working and that's all that counts. For how long...who knows? AMLA sounds very beneficial though. We all have such a different makeup of DNA and PD (or atypical types) and are so varied. I'm so affected axially it sounds more like PSP-P to me so I'm just glad something is working at this time. Thanks for the reply and will check that out.

Neuroprotective effects of acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) in a chronic MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease mouse model: Endothelial and microglial effects
Together, data suggest that in this model, ALC protects against MPTP-induced damage to endothelial cells and loss of DA neurons in the SNc and CPu, suggesting that ALC therapy may have the potential to slow or ameliorate the progression of PD pathology in a clinical setting.
