dosage of B1 powder

I have been impressed with the positive postings of taking vitamin B1. I want to venture on taking Thiamine hcl high dosage in POWDER form but don't know where I can find instructions on how to take it except from this forum. Has anyone out there has any positive experience and suggestions?

I'm 83 y.o, had open heart surgery about 10 years ago, otherwise, except for the PD for 4 years, I'm in good health. My symptoms are mainly non motor, very little tremors. I take Sinemet 25/100 1 1/2 4Xday {6am to 6pm} and Mirapex 0.375 ER one per day; now I want to venture on adding B1 high dosage but need the conversion into teaspoons.

Thanks

Firstly, be warned that thiamine is extremely bitter. Secondly, the encapsulated form is not all that expensive. So unless your finances are extremely tight you do not save very much money using powder. If, nonetheless, you still want to use powder, I recommend getting a sensitive scale that allows you to weigh out gram quantities. Such scales are available at reasonable prices.

The BulkSupplements.com Thiamine HCL package we purchased on Amazon says 1/8 tsp = 251 mg. So 1/2 tsp = 1.04 grams. And 2 tsp = 4.16 mg. Athletes apparently mix it into their smoothies. A scale would make life easier.

We are starting with capsules but plan to try the bulk powder as well.

Good luck.

Thanks, it's exactly what I want to do; in the long run the price of the capsule can get high and put a dent in the budget. Will start with the 1/8 to see how I tolerate the bitterness and work my way up 2 grams twice a day. Got to make the best of it, God is on our side. Bad desease that affect different people in different ways, mine is mostly the autonomic system and looks like the B1 is where works best.

I recently posted about my visit with my neurologist. The previous appointment I had him do a pull test. My wife took video. At that test I took two steps back. This time I took one step back. He must have been surprised because he repeated it twice. I posted each pull test in the group. My neurologist now expressed interest learning more about Thiamine hcl. Keep the faith and change your doctor's closed mind.

Thanks, was waiting for your reply. I read most of your posting and I'm convince that the B-1 works for you. I hope it will also work for me. What is a pull test?

To test my tolerance will start at 1/16 teaspoon (125mg) and progressively work my way up to 2 gm twice a day; my wife likes to cook and has several sets of measuring spoons. I can then compare the cost of the capsule vs the powder, it's going to be a long journey and, might as well, make it as tolerable as possible. Was it you who posted not to take with citrus fruits? Would you count Tomatoes as a NO take? I love tomatoes

You could start with capsules and just empty them onto food or into water. My husband now takes his dissolved in water with some unsweetened black currant juice, mannitol, b2, d-ribose and inositol. He sips on it all day. This seems to work for him.

Have you looked at vitacost capsules ? They are very cheap. $30 for 300. Ie 10c for 500mg. I think it is better to do this as it is accurately weighed out rather than relying on a spoon which may vary.

Thanks Roy for the info. It's wonderful that your neurologist recognised HDT helping you. Hope more neurologists will realise this then we don't have to "fight" to get them approve to the use of it.
