This article lacked any references making it difficult to assess the validity of their claims. It was also hard to interpret - did the "silicon rich" mineral water it referred to mean metallic silicon (unlikely)? If it referred to some silicon compound which one was it? I take capsules of the herb horsetail which is rich in silica (silicon dioxide), which helps with bone strength.
Be all that as it may, if you are ingesting aluminum that will be by far your biggest exposure. If so there is no point in worrying about any other source. "Alum" is a common ingredient in baking powders and can be found in some commercially produced baked goods. Also:
"Aluminum is also in commercial antacids such as Rolaids, Maalox and Mylanta. (Note: the Tums brand, however, is free of aluminum)."
So, if you are concerned about aluminum, the first step is to make sure that none of these items are in your pantry!
Hi, that is actual silica-rich water from Fiji. I don't use any kitchen implements that contain aluminum in it or cooking in it. thank you for your comment. I did take silica from horsetail for a while also.
Some health gurus endorse BioSil (choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid - a combination of choline and silicon) for aluminum detox. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of research information on this subject, however here is a link to one article
