had nightmare 3 months ago featuring skeletons etc. since then I have been followed by hallucinations in my home. know they are not "real" but a product of my imagination, but they follow me everywhere & I can't get rid of them. they watch me the entire night when I sleep. I'm afraid to see doctor about them. I have tried exercise,, walking, biking, etc to focus attn elsewhere but doesn't work. i don't walk well anymore and cry a lot from depression. family misses the " old " me but I don't know if that's possible or where to begin. trouble getting in and out of bed independently, have actually fallen into toilet (!) what do I do??? I thought parkenson was a movement disorder, NOT a mental one ... help please!

Hi, do not despair, there are things that you can do. I'm sending you an old link from healthunlocked. Please read it and let me know what you think. Mary
Can you please read the post from donzim
Hi again, have you tried thiamine HCL? It is a another be vitamin that might help you. I would start with 500 milligrams a day and then increase for a while. Maybe your family can help you, maybe they can read some of the posts? Sending good thoughts your way. Mary
You seriously need to see your doctor.
You really need to speak with your doctor. Your hallucinations are probably a side effect of one of your medications. Your doctor may be able to switch you to a different medication which would work better for you, or adjust your dosage. Parkie13 suggested trying thiamine HCL. This may provide enough benefit that your doctor may be able to reduce the dosage of other medications which may be causing the hallucinations and some other problems.
Hallucinations are a symptom of advanced Parkinson's. I agree high dose thiamine is well worth a try.
Hi, I was really talking about taking niacin for hallucinations. I have included a link from about three years ago where Donzim a member of this group talks about her husband and how taking niacin stopped his hallucinations cold.

I'm reposting the link again in case somebody's missed it. There's a whole discussion about it and Donzim posted few emails in this thread. Mary
Meanwhile, you're in our heartfelt prayers, Nippermcc. Much love.
hello nippermcc sorry to hear whats going on in your life well have you ever tried cannabis oil im not sure if you can get in your state but try and get some as it really helps plus you will sleep well .i find music helps me sleep well im sitting listening to one now called tir na nog its a song about an island on the west coast of ireland were you never grow old never go hungry never get sick.im irish hahahaha but never got to go there, i now live in australia.if i had a wish to give i would send it to you.
Get off meds for a start. They cause halusinations. None of the medications can slow Parkinsons or cure it all they do is mask the symptoms and give you more symptoms and side effects...
the medication is crap!!! I have experienced the nightmares and hallucinations too but now i am off all meds I do not experience any of these.
It will take about 3 to six months to start feeling way better that when you were on meds as the toxins from meds will take that time to get out of your body.
Good luck to you !!
Robyn
How did you wean off your meds and what were they and long were you on them? What were the withdrawal symptoms? Did you hallucinate for the 3-6 months after? Thanks a lot for any insight
You can also take melatonin before going to bed. Start with 5 mg before going to bed and see if that helps.
Thanks for the tip! Will give it a try. Any idea if Sinemet withdrawal increases hallucinations? My dad seemed to be ok with seeing bugs sometimes, but lately he's been trying to vacuum them up a lot and it's a bit worrisome. Everything else seems to be mentally ok...
Please consult with a doctor about the withdrawal of sinemet. There is something called malignant neuroleptic syndrome that can be life-threatening. I took melatonin for a long time and then I started getting headaches so I stopped melatonin for many months. Then in the middle of the night I would start screaming from a dream that I don't remember. Also, I would see moving faces in my flowery curtains. Went back on melatonin and that seems to help, haven't had any of it since I started taking it again. That is my only experience , you will have to consult a doctor about reducing the sinemet good luck..
What PD medication are you taking?
My husband has hallucinations like crazy also! It’s easy for one to say get off the meds but we tried that once and then he had no idea who I was! That’s not fun. He developed Capgras Syndrome. Although some suggestions on here may work well for them it may not for others. We are seeing his neurologist this week re this matter to see what he will say. Would be afraid to just stop them. I know how you feel but contact your doctor first and decide from there what you think.
By the way my husband is on Sinemet, 25/100, 2 pills three times a day
Hi Nippermcc
One of my heros is Abram Hoffer Md. he died in 2008. But he wrote over 30 books. He and his associates treated people with Schizophrenia and ADDHD from 1950 until his death. The primary ingredient that made his nutritional treatments successful was the various forms of Niacin.
In his book on Schizophrenia or his book on ADD there is one page where he mentions that the hallucinations in PD are caused because excess L-Dopa is improperly matabolized to Dopa-chrome. Schizophrenics improperly break down adrenaline into Adrenachrome. Both of these are like LSD. He said what helps is taking Niacinamide and coq10, or noflush niacin( only buy Niacin buffered with inositol)
He said it was the only safe time release Niacin.
Real Niacin would help to but it will give you hot flashes. Some people get a hot flash from no flush Niacin when they start taking it. It caused you to release your stored histamine.
"Niacin The Real Story by Abram Hoffer,Andrew Saul Phd(still alive)
I am taking siminent (spelling?) 4 tabs a day 25 mg often can't dress myself, now that I read this is in the later stages of dementia I feel I have nothing to live for.
Nipper Mac, you have couple suggestions. Start taking thiamine HCL and start taking niacin. When you're feeling better there's always something to live for. I hope you can show it to your caregiver, who can help you get them, start taking them. And of course go and see your doctor.
