SAMe, Parkinson’s disease and Levodopa

Evidence suggests that levodopa (the drug used to treat Parkinson's disease ) can reduce brain levels of SAMe. This depletion may contribute to the side effects of levodopa treatment, as well as the depression sometimes seen with Parkinson's disease. One study found that SAMe taken orally improved depression without changing the effectiveness of levodopa. However, it is also possible that over time taking extra SAMe could interfere with levodopa's effectiveness.

I considered taking SAMe, but besides the levodopa warning I think I remember that it can effect sleep negatively, something about vivid dreams? It's a while ago, so I may be wrong.

Hi, I have just ordered SAMe. Before I take it, can I consult you? How was your experience with SAMe? Many thanks, Laura

I never took it for the reasons I mentioned above.

Thank you for your reply! I saw mixed opinions online, and I am hesitant to take it.
