Just wondering if those out there know how to deal with extreme anxiety and panic attacks. My husband is on zandopa has been for 9 months it does seem to do the job but how much is too much does any one know. Was given morphine for back pain and it tipped him into these extreme panic attacks .he is off morphine but the extreme anxiety and fast breathing and mind games have continued. I have tried him on the thiamine but can only take small doses at time. Doctors are a bit frustrated as pills dont seem to help.

I only know what works for me, and that is i added 5htp to my regimen as part of the Dr Marty Hinz Amino acid protocol. Some will say thats hooey, but it sure helps me. Look into it for more information. 5htp is a direct precursor to serotonin. Dopamine is not the only neurotransmitter that is out of balance in pd. Good luck! Anxiety is prison.

I was - and still am - helped in a similar but less acute condition by a tricyclic antidepressant : amitriptyline, tried after many other medications.

Amitriptyline is also a candidate for stopping PD progression. Just google it.

Hope this helps.

Is Amitriptyline a prescription drug or can it be obtained without prescription over the counter (or on Amazon)?

Also are there any side effects?

Thanks

Hi,

It is a prescription drug.

SSRIs (prozac and the likes) did not work for me, and my neuro tried low doses of Amitriptyline, very gradually. It worked : I now sleep like a baby.

Main side effect : putting on weight...

Many thanks Xenos. For me putting on weight is a positive side effect because unlike the norm for others I'm underweight and desperately need to gain weight for my own good :)

The only problem is how to convince my GP to prescribe the drug for me

All the best Grumpy.

My neuro prescribed me 1 drop the first day, 2 drops the second day, up tp 30 drops. Then my GP suggested me to continue up to 75 mg, which is not a high dose, but I stopped at 65 since I was happy with that.

I wonder what are the mind games he is experiencing. Is he having hallucinations because sometimes they are scary.

Panic attacks i suppose. Eye dilated and horrible feeling comes over him.clostrphobic restless.thoughts that bother him and no matter how hard he tries he cant stop them they over power him. Tried most ssirs no good. Lorazapan has helped but takes1 hr to work and he has been on that for yrs so i think the effect is not working and can b very addictive.

Another suggestion is hypnotherapy.

I think the best way is to book an appointment with his GP and asking him/her to evaluate the anxiety. There are different SSRIs medications that can help anxiety alot.

CBD oil, legal now but expensive, here in uk it's starting to be regulated, love-hemp.com/ . It works for me but please don't take my word as gospel, do have a look though.

I'm better now they've reduced the ropinirole !

The university of Uppsala in Sweden have done some intriguing research

Hi there. I live in France. My husband has anxiety with PD but not as extreme as your husband is experiencing. Our doctor has given him Alprazolam 0.25 mg tablets which he takes a couple of times a day. Our doctor says it's not a large dosage so if my husband feels he needs more for anxiety then he just takes another tablet. Hope this is helpful and good luck.

I have been taking 5 mg of Lithium Orotate, (1/2 in am and half at night and an extra half if needed) for several years. This is not the pharmaceutical but the natural element from the earth. It has helped me control panic attacks and anxiety as well as helping me sleep and I upped it when the Parkinson's symptoms began not knowing anxiety was part of that package. I'm in Canada and it is now banned but it is harmless if taken in smaller amounts than the pharmaceutical, Lithium Carbonate. Lithium is a natural element found in the earth and water and in areas where it occurs naturally in higher amounts in the drinking water it was found that there was less crime and emotional problems. It isn't banned in the US and I see on Amazon it is in tablet (what I have) and capsule form. I have never had any success with anti-depressants and have tried many so tried Lithium that helped with depression as well. Take care and hope you find something that works.

PLEASE read my post above on hallucinations. it includes info re lavender oil and l-theanine which were incredibly remarkable with the problem of panic and anxiety.

a quickie for the quick breathing is just what airlines use for passengers who panic....breathe into cupped hands or a bag. what you want to do short term is change the ratio of oxygen to carbon dioxide. i mention elsewhere the little device used to train people to increase their exhale.

btw: according to the cardiologist, every time there is an uncontrolled panic attack, it hardens the wall of the heart....the adrenaline, i guess.....and eventually, the wall becomes inflexible and cannot move to pump the blood. that is exactly how my husband died. we learned about the lavender oil caps and theanine way too late. the good thing was that he had two years anxiety and panic free thanks to those two products.
