High Dose Thiamine Case Report

We prescribed a therapy with 100 mg of thiamine parenterally (injection) twice a week. As a standard procedure, every time that high doses of thiamine were administrated to patients, small doses of all other group B vitamins were administrated to the patients of this study. Fifteen days after the beginning of the therapy, we examined the patients and repeated the tests.

The exact mechanism of thiamine responsiveness in these patients is unknown.

In any case, the injection of high doses of thiamine was effective in reversing all symptoms, suggesting that the abnormalities in thiamine-dependent processes could be overcome by diffusion-mediated transport at supranormal thiamine concentrations.

Furthermore, we believe that parenteral thiamine administration may play an important role in restoring survivor neurons and in limiting the progression of the disease because the dysfunction of thiamine-dependent processes could be a primary pathogenic pathway leading to the demise of dopaminergic and non-dopaminergic neurons in PD

Fatigue

All patients were assigned to receive high doses of thiamine orally. Depending upon the body weight of each patient, dosage ranged from 600 mg/day (60 kg) to 1,500 mg/day (90 kg). RESULTS:

Ten patients out of twelve showed complete regression of fatigue, ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/233...

Orally administered allithiamine vitamers are therefore recommended for prophylaxis and treatment of thiamine deficits because while having essentially the same biological properties as parenterally administered water-soluble thiamines they have not produced any untoward effects after long-term administration and are far more efficiently utilized.

mega benfotiamine

Benfotiamine is commonly taken at the oral dose of 300-600mg over the course of the day, usually in two divided doses with meals (150mg or 300mg twice daily).

Royprop, does benfotiamine even reach and/or benefit the brain? According to the research I posted on this thread

healthunlocked.com/parkinso...

it does not.

I am trying high-dose B1 therapy: One a day of Spring Valley B1 (250 mg). This I augment now and then with allithiame and occasionally with benfotiamine. My guiding thought (intuition? speculation?) is that the benfo helps my body's utilization of insulin, and (if and as that occurs) glutamate availability may be made more appropriate.

Hello ! I'm fairly new to this site...I always thought there was one type of B 1....Ha, now I find there are many forms. Can you tell me, or direct me to info that explains why you augment one thiamine with another, and why do you use plain B 1, allthiamine & benfotiamine ? Thanks !

Thanks so much for sharing your information. I've been lurking and realized the other day how much this group makes me feel connected to people who understand but are working to handle this condition as best as possible and not just go belly up!

RoyProp, what results have you had from allithiamine? Why the change to benfotiamine?

allithiamine, 100mg, 2X/day/2X/week: My vision improved and strength increased as evidence of ease of entering and covering myself at bedtime. It gives me hope. and I can brush my teeth with my right hand without my hand "freezing". Normally I brush my teeth with my left hand or use electric tooth brush. I caught myself brushing using my right hand. I was surprised. I thought before I tell my wife the good news I will wait and see next time. Next time was the "proof in the pudding". Add that to and thank allithiamine.

I say it gives me hope as it may not be the allithiamine but normal variation in my symptoms. I am leaning more credit to allithiamine in my non-scientific review. My tremors not totally gone but earlier on I had trouble going to sleep at night now not so bad.

Allithiamine is 50mg per capsule, while m-b is 250mg per capsule. I do not recall in my reading about B1 any advantage one over the other. If you know of any, please revert....

Here is to hope as I titrate to higher dose, starting at 600.
