What brand mucuna?

There are number of brands of mucuna to choose from. Please let me know which works best for you. Thanks.

Mucuna is a plant, how can it be a brand?

For treating Parkinsons, there is really only two options 40% or 98% L-Dopa content. The L-Dopa content of raw Mucuna is insufficient to treat Parkinson's.

Other 'brands' will have stuff added, as per Levidopa, Sinimet, etc. This is normally bad news.

I use 98%, balanced by NeoroReplet to stop the nausea (no Carbidopa)

The brand sold by health professionals like chiropractors, acupuncturists,, I can't remember the name because I had DBS and haven't used it for some time..sorry. It requires establishing a baseline with urine screens. I want to say DBK Laboratories. Look up mucuna threads here.

Does price make a difference, when it comes to buying them? I see that Walgreens sells Mucuna for half or even less than the ones you buy on line or at the Chiropractic office. Also what is the best one to buy and how much such a person should take if it's the first time. Thanks

Hi Nelly,

This is Gautam from Goa, India. The recommended dosage by Zandu Pharma is 2x7.5 gms of Zandopa = 1x100/25 Sinemet. But I find that a bit on the higher side. I find that 1x5gms of Zandopa for 1 tablet of Sinemet 25/100 works best for me. Of course it may vary from person to person and you will have to see whats best for your Mum.

I'm from Bangalore , diagnosed in 2010, managing with Kapikachu (Indian mucuna) from Vaidyaratnam Kerala, it should be taken in empty stomach, 1 TBS in normal drinking water with 1/2 fresh lemon juice, gives about 2.5 hrs ON time each time, has very less side effects. Syndopa induces dyknesia and dystonia.

2. I took 3 times a day, 125 mg Sinemet

3. I heard good stories about them and I want to postpone raising of Sinemet as long as possible, because I'm only 50.

4. I use four times daily 5 grams Zandopa

CONCLUSIONS:

The rapid onset of action and longer on time without concomitant increase in dyskinesias on mucuna seed powder formulation suggest that this natural source of L-dopa might possess advantages over conventional L-dopa preparations in the long term management of PD.
