Balance problems: Hi I was diagnosed with... - Cure Parkinson's
Balance problems
I was diagnosed three years ago. I have been through various diet adjustment routines with no noticeable improvement. I have settled on fast, energetic walking exercise as I attempt to ward off advance or worsening of symptoms. I have not ever fallen and that keeps me optimistic.
Thank you. I will give walking a try. 😅
I was talking with my LSVT Big practitioner and she also teaches dance for PD, she said that it's funny how people may fall before and after but never while dancing. I think it's the same when you're doing the BIG program, you're concentrating and that makes the chances of falling much less. I found the program to be a huge boost to my confidence so I help it will do that to you too. Move Big!!
Is there an LSVT Big teacher in the UK? I'd love to learn. I don't have balance problems but am stiffer and less flexible than before my diagnosis.
This might help to find the clinicians in the UK lsvtglobal.com/clinicians
Thanks grower - very interesting and I have used it to find a practioner near enough to me.
Parki balance problems goes with Parkinsons and you seem to be doing all the right things to cope. Your anxiety also is common in PD and sometimes it needs medication treatment. Do keep you Dr informed I hope you don't get anxious about being anxious!
Parki Falling can be very distressing. Can I suggest some exercises you could do for balance 1) walking the length of the hallway, if possible, doing a twirl half way along , (or do some twirls where you are standing - clock, anti clock.) 2) Walk up and down the hallway throwing a ball and catching it 3) again up and down the hallway throwing a ball and hopping it alternately.
4) Stand on a step with one foot and the other foot hanging. Make sure there is something to grab on to if necessary 5) Get a balance board and see how you get on with it 6) This might be tempting fate a bit: stand on one foot with your eyes shut but your hand close to a chair or cupboard for safety.
Best work out your own programme of how many repeats you can do to start or how seconds you can do.
You've got to have a focus and some of these may be a start. Have you looked at the LSVT Big programme? It might give you some useful ideas. it was on this forum a few days ago.
Lets know how you get on. All the bst
Thank you. Sounds very helpful. I do go to LSVT BIG. 2nd time. It has been 2 year. My dr ordered it again. I like it & you have to do it twice at home. Hope it helps.
that therapy is great but you also need to build your core and that takes a lot of work you need to do all types of exercise to build muscle
I do crossfit 5 or 6 times a week
google it
Thank ypu for your advice. I will read up on that. My core is very bad.
