I think it might be fun to gather everyone's ideas for making coconut oil an attractive part of the diet into one post. My hope is that this is a Recipe Post and not a place for strutting your stuff, , or debating about Angels on the head of a pin. Lighten Up; Have Fun!
0. Butter Substitute.
At the table: Mix 2T Coconut oil into hot cereal, mashed potatoes (squash etc.) or into pasta sauce.
Science Demonstration.
Step 1.
Blend 2 T CO into 1/3 cup warm water:
Result is warm oil-water immersion.
Blend mixture with six ice cubes:
Result is a hunk of solid wet coconut oil.
Step 2.
Blend 2 T CO into 1/3 cup warm skim milk:
Result is a warm CO-milk immersion.
Blend mixture with six ice cubes:
Result is a cold CO-milk immersion.
1. Recipe. Coconut Oil Iced flavored drink.
Prepare a cold CO-milk immersion as above.
Add your favorite flavoring and a more ice.
Blend until ice has been reduced to slush.
(Good for iced coffee, fruit slushee, cold protein drink, etc.)
2. Recipe. Coconut Oil Italian ice.
Prepare above recipe with enough Ice to create a thick slush.
Place in freezer for about one hour, until it forms a soft solid.
3. Recipe. Economy F4T. ($.10 PER OZ)
Combine equal amounts of water, MCT oil, CO
Add sugar and fruit juice to taste. Blend thoroughly.
Measure into 2.5 ounce bottles. Refrigerate.
(This emulsion may separate over time. Use skim milk instead of water in the first step to obtain a more stable emulsion.)
4. CO on the GO.
Pour 1 oz melted CO into 1.5 oz bottles.
Place a Ziploc plastic bag to carry in purse, travel bag, etc.
If solidified melt in 1/2 cup hot water before use.

I melt the CO oil, add cocoa powder and cinnamon to taste add sweetener if you like, put it on wax paper sheet and place in fridge. It makes a large chocolate bar on which I nibble during the day.
I also broil eggplant which is high in nicotine which might benefit PD. I wash eggplant and slice it lengthwise about 3/4 inch thickness; Cover a cookie sheet with foil paper greased liberally with CO, place eggplant slices to fit, grease the eggplant again with CO, sprinkle with spices of your choice, place under broiler for about 5 minutes, then turn eggplant and sprinkle with spices and return to broiler for 4 to 5 minutes...each side to be browned. I eat it with meals, salads, use instead of bread for sandwiches.
I don't have a recipe. I just add a spoonful or more to a lot of what I cook. I also discovered coffee tastes great with a spoonful of CO in it. I also put it in my hot cereal.
Hi love your ideas for CO! I just melt and add to food. I am still trying to master making a breakfast type bar. I have tried using oats, honey, fruit, dried coconut and melted CO,! But it still does not solidify as I would like. It still tastes great. I use it as a snack between meals if I feel my energy dropping! I feel it works! I have also been making lots of veg or fruit smoothies and the CO is great in these. I also add manuka honey to sweeten, I try to use as many fresh ingredients as possible and avoide to many processed ingredients. I feel that the smoothies are easier digested and don't use as much energy to metabolise! So I have more energy ! I usually have smoothies for breakfast and lunch and I have a a solid meal at dinner with the family. I have changed my milk to soya, I will try melting CO into this!
I use coconut oil for "oil pulling." Every morning when I get out of bed I put approx 1/2 tsp or more coconut oil in my mouth, swish it around like mouth wash for 10 minutes or so, spit it out into the garbage then rinse out my mouth. Oil pulling has been used for years - benefits are many. No more sinus infections for me & less dental cleaning! Oh, I use it for a my cooking, as well.
RE the popular 'oil pulling' myth: An average toothpaste and a proper soft-bristled toothbrush will do your teeth FAR better than any oil you choose to swish around in your mouth. If you can't find a toothbrush, swishing some liquid around in your mouth until it essentially emulsifies into a pseudo-soap may be slightly better than nothing at all. There are beaucoup articles on the history of 'oil pulling' but any credible (science-based) hint of actual proven benefit has yet to materialize. In fact the only studies done show everyday mouthwash to be superior (minus the 15-20 minutes of swishing).
Nor is it a place to perpetuate popular myth - keep it science-based and FACTUAL. If you're looking for snake oil remedies, the HealthUnlocked site should not such cater to you and your fellow dupes.

Mayo Clinic thinks that gingivitis can be serious. A triple blind study determined that oil pulling is an effective treatment. Hence oil pulling has some proven medical value, contrary to your claim.

NEWS FLASH: the simple act of prolonged swishing - whether it's oil, bacon grease, or mere saliva - will result in a "reduction" of plaque. Thanks so much for the support. The "rant" did come as a bit of a surprise. And, for what it is worth I do brush 2 x daily, as well as floss daily. Using coconut oil is my way of being proactive with my dental health. I do appreciate reading the posts & understand this is not the place for personal digs. Use coconut oil. Also, a recent study found that coconut oil may help prevent tooth decay.

A friend brought a bag of Granny Smith (green) apples this week. Last evening I tried a little free-form cooking. I put 2 tablespoons coconut oil 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and one chopped Granny Smith apple into a saucepan (some sweetener if you wish). Heated and stirred until the apple became somewhat soft and poured it over some plain Greek yogurt. Interesting effect: the oatmeal soaked in coconut oil and apple juice settled to the bottom and got a little crispy. When I poured it over the yogurt it ended on top, a crunchy topping!
This is for ketogenic diets (94 % Fat). It's a gorgeous dessert I found, and has no sugar. The trick to making it work is following the correct technique step-by-step, otherwise you'll get a disaster.
Kitchen tools required:
- motorized hand held blender and accompanying plastic mixing cup
- small stove top pot
Food ingredients (makes 6 x 330 calories):
- 2 oz unsalted butter
- 2 oz cacoa butter
- 8 TBS (115 g) cream cheese
- 12 TBS (180 ml) heavy whipping cream (35 %MF)
- 2 TBS cacoa powder (unsweetened)
- 3 TBS Splenda sweetener (to taste)
Step 1: Cool blender blade stem and blender mixing cup in freezer for 10 minutes. Pour whipping cream into chilled mixing cup and plunge blender up and down while running at full speed. You'll know when it's done. Use nylon spatula to remove whipped cream from mixing cup and store temporarily in container in refrigerator.
Step 2: Melt both butters together in stove top pot, then blend in sweetener as best you can. After butters have melted add cream cheese cut up into small pieces. Stir manually on stove top as best you can. Warning, this mixture looks like hell. Transfer butter/cream cheeze mixture into blender mixing cup (cleaned of whipped cream made in previous step) and mix as best you can. Warning this still looks like hell. Add previously whipped cream into blender mixing cup and then blend at high speed. Voila, suddenly magic appears in the form of a perfect chocolate mousse. Divide into six servings and refrigerate until ready to eat.
