Hello all
Was ambulanced in just over a week ago due to all the above suddenly becoming acute
They resectioned my bowel, removing the ileocecal valve & appendix
am 70 with several infant onset immune dysfunction & connective tissue disorder illnesses long-diagnosed & responding ok to nhs treatments + self help
For over a decade have been in tertiary care with gastroenterology at my University Hospital, spending the last 6 years on Elemental Nutrition cause small intestine needed total rest long term. So no food, just plain rice cakes & prescrip Nutricia E028 Extra neutral flavour
My Rheumatology & gastroenterology teams have been calling my gut condition Crohns-like for ages, because the immunosuppression meds I take for my lupus, sjogrens, vasculitis etc consistently help damp down my gut pain. But because I’m seronegative for all my AIDs due to my Antibody Deficiency Disease, & imaging wasn’t showing clear diagnostic signs, Crohns hasn’t been officially diagnosed, so far. But my husband’s Crohns was diagnosed at Uni so we’re well informed & aware formal diagnosis isn’t everything & can take years
anyway, that’s just a bit of background. Really, am just hoping an older person like myself may read this post & offer me up some of their experience re recovery etc. my husband says that, as a youth, his version of nearly the same emergency surgery needed at least 6 months of resting until he even began to feel stronger. I’d be very glad of others’ feedback on how their recoveries from a similar acute crisis went
Thanks, Coco
