I'm assumming you're in a flare at the moment. Normally steroids are prescribed for short periods of time to get your symptoms back under control, either to the point of managing with your normal maintenance medication or in to remission if you're really lucky. The initial loading dose is what should have the impact on your symptoms. After this you reduce the dose gradually as coming off steroids too quickly can cause side effects and result in a flare up of your symptoms. By the time you're on two tablets a day the steroids are likely to have already got your symptoms under control. This point is really about coming off them safely and maintaining the improvement not about actively treating the symptoms.
Very good insight and exactly what I would have said. Assuming there is a current flare. I do the same type of regimen when I am in a flare that can't be stopped.
Hi Bucket 13. You'll be absolutely fine going on holiday. I agree completely with what LizGibson has said. I was clapping my hands by the time I got down to 1/week as after being on on a high intravenous dose prior to the tapering down, I had had rubbish side effects and was so pleased that tapering off was coming to an end. I've had steroids other than intravenous before tapering as well and have been absolutely fine afterwards with regards to pain. If you still are in pain when you have finished, please do not hesitate to contact your doctor, but if you're at the dose you're on now and feel ok, then the flare must have settled. Take lots of care and enjoy your holiday!
