Medication optimal timings

I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with understanding the effect of their medication, based on when they take the meds during the day and additionally before or after meals.

I'm taking Azathioprine/Allopurinol & budesonide. The budesonide I take before breakfast and the aza/alo I take in the evening.

I'm never sure if taking water on directly after a meal is a good idea - this is what I do currently.

Anything you share is appreciated.

Thanks

I take three Octasa tablets on a morning as soon as I get up. Just with a glass of water, then have a light breakfast half an hour later. A short walk follows.

Been fine for the last 12 months doing this (touch wood).

I think routine and diet matters a lot. It never worked taking the tablets throughout the day for me with food. Don’t know why, always gave me stomach ache and mucus.

But this is working for me.

Took me a while to get to know the effects of my medications on daily living and finding the right balance with multiple dosage to treat symptoms.

I take less meds in the morning due to side effects eg: drowsiness /nausea. Other meds spread throughout the day and lastly higher dosages at night as can sleep off side effects and dosage has to be higher to last throughout the night. ( some meds are slow release).

It's a bit of trial and effort to see what suits individual peoples conditions, lifstyle, getting to know effects, symptoms, dosage and generally what works for you.

Are you seeing many side effects? TBH I have only really taken on weight whilst being on a 4 month stretch of prednisolone over 2018-2019 - side effects otherwise I have been good - my primary issue has always been a struggle to get control

It's a fine balance between medication treating symptoms and medication causing added symptoms. Different meds cause different side effects and not all people will get the same reactions. You would be best to speak to your Gp on possible side effects and management of meds.
