Give time for Remicade

Taking a day off of work, because of a Remicade infusion is annoying. I feel like people think I’m lying when I say I’m at the hospital, because they think “wouldn’t that just take an hour? Why do you need to be gone for the whole work day?” ...

They have no clue how long a Remicade infusion takes.

As they probably don't know and, indeed, don't want to know what medication you are taking, I would just say I have to have an infusion, and it will take all day. If they bother to look up infusion, the first thing they will notice is CANCER, they won't ask any questions and you don't have to tell any lies.

I take the day off myself. I just tell my work I am having a medical procedure, or I am having a medical treatment and no one asks about it but only say “I hope it goes well”.

Been there. I currently take Humira injections which I do at home. More convenient but I don’t feel it’s as effective.

I’ve found that no matter where I have worked people are not supportive of any medical intervention- apparently I don’t look ill!

Having to justify medical treatment is annoying and at times embarrassing. I hoped things were changing with the not all disabilities are visible campaign but apparently not.

Some people don’t understand the term “invisible disease” and it’s really sad, because everyone just judges you based on what you look like and not how you feel.

Absolutely. It's as if you need to wear a badge that declares you have a chronic 'invisible' illness. All the while, to those of us who suffer, we know the illness is anything but invisible.

Exactly! To me it causes lots of pain, anxiety and sometimes even depression. But no one believes any of it, because I don’t have a “visible disability” and then they go on telling you that maybe if you do things differently (like diet and stuff) it’ll make you feel better... Excuse me, but how would you know how I feel 😂

Always do what you need to do for yourself...and never worry what anybody thinks. Love thyself first ! XX (When I get my infusion I'm so tired I go home to rest .)

I tell my boss I have a medical treatment and need a sick day. I don’t ask, I tell them. That way a replacement can be found.
