colitis

I have been diagnosed with colitis and have been in hospital several times. My immune system is rubbish and having been in hospital I now have C/Difficile. I have been so ill with it that am starting to think it will never go away. Has anyone out there ever had the same thing.

Ive never had CDiff but have nursed many patients with it. It is an awful bug and can take months to get over. I hope you feel better very soon, sending big hugs x

I have seen many people discharged from hosp. with Cdiff and it does take ages to deal with. Because of this I have what may sound like an over cautious way, when being discharged from hosp myself. Cdiff is spread by spores, so I am always concerned by what I bring home from the ward with me. Friends think I am nuts, I have a second dressing gown and spare still wrapped pyjamas, which go in the bottom of my admissions bag (have been admitted a lot sometimes blue lighted) Nothing that was worn in hospital comes back into my home, is in black plastic bag straight into dustbin, bare feet from front door, into slippers that have not left home. Flannel, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush chucked on ward. Only things kept, which are plastic and expensive (phone, charger, ear phones etc) get a going over with antibacterial wipes and if I am fit enough try to get the staff to allow me a shower/hair wash the day I am due to be discharged. I work on the principle, if I have managed by hygiene practices not to get anything on the ward, the last thing I want to do is bring some spores home with me!!! Wishing you the best, be kind to your immune system.

Thankyou so much for replying to my post. I do not seem to be able to rid myself of this horrible thing. I am trying to get help as I am told there is treatment being carried out by different hospitals but its finding one who will do it. I too worried about giving it to my family, even been bleaching my pillows in the bath!. I wish you well and hope you are keeping well.

I had the same. At my lowest point and hospitalised I picked up CDiff! It feels like a total uphill battle but the infection will go and it will get easier.

Make sure you rest.

Think I was the bleach queen. Boil wash everything. Take it a day at a time. X

Thanks so much for your reply I am feeling so low with this thing as I do not seem to be able to get rid of it. They told me to eat plenty as I have lost a lot of weight, but its difficult to lead a normal life when you feel so ill. I am so glad you got better, it gives me hope . Have you any tips I can follow, am waiting for more test results.

My best advice is if you fancy it eat it. I stuck mainly to carbohydrates as they didn’t upset me as much. Mashed potatoes and rice pudding became staples.

There is so much about trying a diet that improves your gut microbiome. However this is hard when you feel rotten. I tried VSL probiotics. I’ve recently started Kefir drinks and Kefir yogurt. I’m having a flare up and my infleximeb has stopped working. Too early to tell yet. But they taste ok so that’s a bonus. I found small portions but often helped as well. Hope you start to feel better soon. It will go. You are stronger than you know.

Thankyou so much for your advice. I am having a colonoscopy on Tues , not sure what they look for. I feel so tired but eating as much as I can. Keep getting awful sweats and I am not sure why. You have given me hope, thankyou.

The sweats is part of the illness. I get them. You will get through this.
