Okay, so I am wondering when it says 'Body' if it is taking the proverbial seems as this is a 'Couch to 5k' blog, or if it really just wants me to type...
I am settling on the latter so here goes; my first ever blog for the wibbly wobbly web to read. Maybe one day this will make me rich...
ABOUT ME
32, Mum to 16 year old and 10 year old darling sweethearts (bints), and Wife to a 34 year old sex god (really - because he will be reading this one day).
I work in accounts and order processing for a fitness equipment distributor (ironic).
Myself and the sex god stopped smoking 13 months ago and since then I have gained a bit (alot) of weight and some rather crap eating and drinking habits to replace the demon tobacco fix.
Today I am off work nursing my 5th ear, throat and sinus infection since stopping smoking (irony again), and have decided that I really do need to give myself a kick up the arse and lose this weight, ready for a sneaky weekend away with the sex god, bint free, in the canaries in September. 22 weeks & 2 days if anyone is asking.
I am also now committed after a few too many glasses of red and a drunken status update session on Facebook, to the Race for Life in June at Lister Park. (Sponsor page will be added when I get paid and pay them for raising them money).
VITAL STATISTICS
Height is 5ft 3-5ft 4 depending on the day?!
I stopped weighing myself at 10 stone 7lbs, and think I have plateaued at that amount but, to be frank, I daren't weigh myself and have no intention of standing on a set of scales in the near future.
Instead I will upload my measurements and regular progress pics once I have persuaded the sex god to take some none sexy shots. One mention of 10 mega pixel cameras and the bedroom and he is like a man possessed.
Medically I am fine, other than suffering from the effects of weight on limbs and an over-active pie arm.
PLAN
Firstly I need to cut the ale (easier now the football seasons is coming to an end) and the red wine (sob). I tend to drink 2 bottles of wine on a weekend (Friday to Sunday) and at least 10 bottles/cans of beer depending on what's on offer.
I intend on limiting myself to a few (4 being pessimistic, 3 being optimistic) bottles of beer on a Friday and just one bottle of red wine for Saturday and Sunday.
My diet needs an overall but I don't think it is drastically too bad.
I eat tons of fresh fruit through the day, drink 2 litre bottles of water a day, wholemeal bread with low fat cheese for lunch, then go home and have pie and chips or home made chicken curry in shop bought sauces and a naan bread, or home-made meals such as stew and dumplings....bugger I am fooling no-one, my diet is shite.
Exercise at the moment is walking to the car, school and to the football ground from the pub, despite having half my companies' fitness equipment sat around the house. (Not stolen I might add!)
So the intention is to use my day off from C25k days to utilise some of the equipment I have, and hopefully this blog will keep me motivated.
I will be commencing 'Operation Arseshift' from Monday 29th April once this horrid infection has cleared and a sports bra has been purchased to prevent any further injury.
If any of you happen to see a red faced, overweight, large breasted woman racing (walking), around the Wibsey area at 7am in future, give me a wave! Or a pie.
For now it it is adios.
Col.

Hi, nice to meet you. Enjoyed reading your blog and looking forward to hearing how you get on with your first run next Monday. Enjoy the programme. I've found it really addictive so far. I'm just about to finish Week 6 tonight.
Good luck - it's a great programme and as you go through it you'll feel you've really achieved something - and you'll feel a whole lot better and more energetic too.
I initially saw the C25k in my Tesco mag some time ago (probably when I was off buying wine!) but mislaid it and put it off, so I am glad I found this site!
I like the idea of documenting my way through and having some support and being accountable then for any laziness.
Do you have a blog I can have a nosey at whilst I am recuperating?
I've just completed the programme - and feel very pleased with it all. Didn't really expect to enjoy it, it was just a means to an end - but now I look forward to going running every other day! Very strange.
If you click on a poster's icon or name that'll show you their profile and recent posts - so you can always look down there (though you get the one line responses and answers as well as the blogs). Alternatively clicking on Tags in the Menu Bar will lead you to lots of fascinating blogs.
Will drag my snuffly self off the sofa, make a pot of char and have a good old nosey at yours and everyone else's blogs.
Well done on completing the programme...9 weeks seems a long time away. I am half excited, half nervous, but as with the smoking, I went public so had to do it and will with this.
Hi there, have just sat and giggled my way through your blog, rings so many bells with myself!
the RFL and more importantly the sneaky weekend away should be be good for beating back the procrastination!!!
Im just on week three and havent lost any weight, but my jeans are feeling positively loose when i walk so sometimes think that measuring is a better way of seeing how you are doing!!
I defo need some motivation and the fact I have sat in the boohoo.com basket a shed load of size 10 beach wear for our mini break means I best follow it through, else I will have yet more clothes to add to the 'one day they will fit' pile.
It is reading things like pants being looser that is my driving factor. I will be adding your blog to my nosey list.
Great blog! Sounds like me, well the old me before I started this programme (I graduated last October). You have the right attitude to do really well with it. I think it's sensible to take measurements rather than weighing yourself as it is unlikely the weight will fall off you, it will take your body some time to adjust to the new regime, and measurements will change more quickly.
Oh and a final thing, apparently it's quite common to be more ill for a while after quitting the fags. I quit 3 years ago next month and I remember the first winter I had back to back colds for months! I never realised there was so much variety in them before that
Anyway, make sure to keep us updated on your new journey!
Thanks for the reply and the heads up on the fags and colds. I seem to have one sinus and throat infection after another and each one whacks me...never had one before I stopped!!
I am extremely motivated at the moment. I was looking at some old holiday pics and the difference pre-fags to post-fags has really made me feel fat and frumpy.
I expected to gain a few pounds, but to gain well in excess of a stone and a half, and creep up from a size 8-10 (UK) to size 12-14 has been quite an experience, especially on my short legs!!
I know to most my weight probably doesn't seem drastic but the difference I feel in my health and mobility is beginning to show.
Anyway I will quit whining because it is all self inflicted and is all self fixable.
Take care and I will have a nosey at your blog too.
Yeah it's odd. I guess our bodies take a long time to adjust, but if you're anything like me, it'll pass soon hopefully.
I gained 10kg when I stopped, so know how you feel. I developed a love for chocolate that I never had before then. Thankfully now I have developed a love for running and so can be a little more indulgent with the chocolate, haha! Also I've lost that 10kg (and 1 more ), since doing this programme, putting me comfortably back in the "healthy" BMI range. I started losing weight in week 7 and it has been consistently falling ever since. I understand what you mean though about it affecting mobility. I felt so slow and everything an effort. Even shifting a few pounds makes all the difference.
Thanks so much, it means a lot! Some days feel hard but others everything just falls into place and you feel amazing! I think these are the days that explain why we all keep running.
I put on 1.5 stone when I quit smoking so you're not alone. I've battled with that weight ever since, losing quite a lot when I got married and then piling it all back on again with take-aways, chips with everything and too much booze (and next to no exercise).
Great advice to measure yourself. I wish I had done so 6 weeks ago but I did have to buy a pair of trousers a size smaller recently so I'm definitely changing shape
Liked reading Rollertoaster's replied above about losing weight in week 7. Hoping it will do the same for me. Going on holiday in 7 weeks time and would love to be able to wear some honeymoon bikinis that haven't seen the light of day for years. Don't thing the elastic's perished!
As someone said above, it's easy to read other people's blogs, just click on the names and enjoy! Bet you'll be reading for hours
Hi! Enjoyed your blog, made my grandson (3 yrs) ask me why I was smiling!
Wishing you well with your goals; this is a fantastic programme, I graduated in February, having run outside all through the long long winter... but much prefer the frost and snow to todays sun and heat!
I am about 4 stone overweight now, having lost 2 stones since I joined weight watchers at the end of September; I found the running has really changed my shape rather than making the weight fall off; but I am carrying on with both as my end goal is to be fit, healthy and not as fat by my 50th at the end of November (& I was only 2 lbs off my first goal of 2 stone off for daughters wedding on 12th April)!
I was very pleased to note I walked miles when I was in Wales last week, loads of hills and steps and did a bit of cycling and felt really good; whereas my daughter moaned about her aching legs and how tiring all our activities were! She wishes she had carried on with C25K and WW now!
Make sure you carry on blogging, and reading others as there is so much information and inspiration on this site; soon you will be hooked and getting your graduation badge, beaming and amazed as the rest of us are!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog and glad you enjoyed it.
I am mega impressed in how much weight you have lost - I can't even begin to imagine the pride you must have felt at your daughters wedding and to be able to hold your head so high at such a fab amount of weight loss must have been the icing on the cake (pardon the pun!).
I also love walking, and when we go to the Canaries we intend on doing alot of walking up in the sticks and in the national park, seems as the kids won't be there to moan they are bored!
The remarkable thing about this program is how fast you noticeable and real changes, especially within your overall fitness and body shape. I wouldn't worry too much about what the scales say, if anything there is a good chances you'll gain a couple of pounds during the first few weeks due to the increase in muscle mass unless you are undertaking a fairly strict diet alongside.
Anyway I wish you all the luck with the program, it does work, all you need to do is Trust in Plan 100% and you'll be rewarded
Welcome - I really enjoyed your introductory blog - it sounds as though you've really got the determination it takes to get through c25k I look forward to following your progress and reading everything you write about it!
Hi Col, what a brilliant blog. So funny, you had me laughing out loud. Your diet sounds a lot like mine was (especially the alcohol bit) at the end of 2012. New Years Resolution was to eat more healthily and do some sort of exercise. Since January hubby and I have been using the Change 4 Life Recipes App. There is some really good grub on there and healthy too. Lots of veg, beans and pulses used to bulk things out. I'll say no more about the side effects!!!!! Also the Hairy Dieters recipes are good too. I started C25K end of Feb. Now just about to finish W8. What can I say? It is great and I'm really hooked. Haven't lost much weight since I started running but certainly dropped at least one dress size. Be sure to take 'before' measurements. Had a giggle about all your exercise equipment. If it's anything like our house they're probably used to hang clothes on!! My son has an exercise bike which he sits on, leans against the wall, hangs his legs over the handlebars and watches TV! Enough said!! Good luck with 'Operation Arseshift'.
Hi Col, what a wonderful blog....I think you are going to love this. You could always get the sex god to join you? I for one will look forward to reading your progress. It will change you, and in terms of diet, I got the Myfitnesspal app and it gives you calories when you exercise!! The running has been instrumental in me giving up fags, I do miss them but I know I would die if I smoked and ran!!! I have lost a few pounds and hoping to get to my target weight....in fact yours of 10 stone 7, but I guess I am a bit talller than you ( 5ft 8). Whatever size we are we can do it. I think you sound like an amazing warm person and I think you will do this with bells on, cheers Julia XXXX
Sadly the sex god point-blank refuses to do any form of running, however he is an avid cyclist.
He cycles to work and back and whilst he has a beer belly that has formed since we stopped smoking, he has the most toned arse I have ever seen in a man.
He keeps trying to get me into the cycle bug but after a dodgy start last year and the complete inability to change gear without a clutch pedal, I gave it up.
I wish you all the best in your weight loss and than you sincerely for your kind words.
I just started Week 1 Run 1 this morning so I have a long way to go but I'm determined to keep going and like a lot of people have said whatever size, whatever shape, whatever our lifestyle before we can do this!! I am probably (avoiding the scales too) but something like 5 stone overweight and I felt it this morning. I went out early hoping no one would see me;), put the app on and went for it. It was hard and for a while it probably still will be but keep in mind the overall goal and plan for any barriers you might have. You just have to keep getting up and getting on because whats the alternative....... Just think however slow you are going and however red faced you are you are going to be lapping everyone who is still sitting on the couch deciding not to do this. Btw the red face goes away fairly soon If I can do this shifting this large weight about then anyone can. It will feel strange at first (I think i looked like Phoebe from friends) and thought people would think Godzilla was on the loose but that sense of achievement i felt when i got back home was amazing. I took my dogs out then as a warm down and thought about when I would next do this. Keep going when you feel like you cant and think of why you are doing it Well done for taking a positive step and if I can impart any further wisdom being a newbie myself Ill let you know: Jo x
I think the main things i have learnt from reading people's blogs and questions are to take your time, go slow and keep going. I will probably end up repeating week 1 twice because yesterday was so awful and my legs are not happy with me at the moment (the house stinks of fiery jack!) but im determined to keep going. Good luck x
Thats made my day! You are a natural blogger. Hello, and a big welcome again! I am sure you will love it, and everyone on here is so friendly and supportive. I was just about to leave work trying to spur myself on for a little jog tonight and found your post, its just put me in the right mood As for me, I was a size 18 December 2012 and am now a size 12/14, in what 20 weeks? Its right about the body shape more than the weight, some lose, some dont, I did, around 24 pounds so far. But we're all different, I wish you every success and look forward to seeing your first post run blog on Monday. Hope you enjoyed the yorkie pud - I could just scoff one now with some onion gravy....oooooohhh.
You're post is exactly what spurs me to do this...to drop from an 18 to a 12/14 in 20 weeks is amazing!! Well done!
I am glad my post made your day! It is lovely to read things like this!
As for the yorkie...I am going to miss them once I start this dieting...I normally make home-made braised steak, a giant plate sized yorkie and fill it with mash, braised steak and onion and garden peas as a change from the Sunday roast.
My god I will miss my northern stodge - might make it for dinner Sunday though. Last supper and all that!
Listen don't worry about the weight I am 1 stone heavier, the same height as you and currently able to run about 7km non stop .plus I am 20 years older than you
.
So now excuses, get your ass in gear and go for it.
Look after your body and it will look after you. Easily said than done, but you have made the right decision.
Have a banana and some water about an hour before you go for your run, this will help with the energy levels.
I loved your blog and look forward to following your progress, whatever happens, do not give up. We are all here for you and someone will be able to answer your questions and offer advice if you need it.
Thanks so much for the advice. I was hoping to wang it with a Mars bar but if you insist on banana than I best be sensible...spoil sport!
In all seriousness, thanks, because I was worrying about whether I would be able to run with very little in my stomach.
My runs will be morning ones, and I normally have porridge for breakfast, however I know if I did have that before a run it would be a pavement pizza within ten seconds of getting into my stride. A banana does make sense.
I am glad you enjoyed my first blog. I will have a stalk at yours too
Thanks for the tip too...but, I won't lie, that is not going to happen just yet. Maybe once the health bug has truly bitten the beer will be a thing of the past, but my red wine saves me from committing myself or committing murders.....
Ha ha . Your blog set me up for the day. A lot of me in there aswell! I'm
About the same height and was a little heavier when I started the programme. By using the blog I didn't feel alone. Was really supportive in getting my arse out the door in the cold dark winter.
I find I start off with good intentions in the morning and have a healthy lunch at work but it all goes downhill when I get home and have my first tipple. However!!.... On the evenings I run I usually have a pint of squash after and have a buzz , it's a real high. Don't gravitate to the fridge so readily.
When I'm running I often think of my bum and hold my tum in. I'm thinking of those new white jeans I bought...want to wear them tomorrow.
Doing this programme I have lost nearly a stone and am a weight I haven't seen since the dark ages. ...and rumour has it I ran a half marathon in march..still can't believe that was me but its def me in the pics..good luck x
Thanks so much for your reply. It has cheered me up so much and I am so inspired reading these weight losses. You know when the little monster sat on your shoulder is saying, why bother, you won't do it? Well reading posts like this is kicking its head in.
Well done on your half marathon...makes my upcoming RFL look like a piece of cake!
I gave up smoking three years ago and immediately put on three stone! I found that impossible to shift, whatever I tried and thought I'd be stuck as a size 14 for the rest of my life.
Then I watched Dr Michael Mosley's Horizon programme last August (vimeo.com/54089463) and vowed to lose weight and get fit. I joined Kate Harrison's 'The 5:2 Diet' Facebook group in November and bought her excellent book, started eating just 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week, and the weight has fallen off - I've lost three stone and I'm now a size 10. (I'm 5' 8".)
In January I thought I'd better start getting fit as well, rather than just doing my Y-Plan DVDs, and fortunately discovered the NHS C25K podcasts. Week one was a struggle (I'm 63 and haven't run since I had to at school) but I've plodded on with it and now I run at least 30 minutes three times a week and love it!
