Week 1 run 3 completed and my breathing has improved but my right calf is tight as hell. Cure required before commencing week 2.

I find rest works for me. You could try elevating your leg and putting ice on it for 5 mins at a time. Ed

Are you stretching after your run? I find my calves get tight if I forget to stretch.

Thanks Christian, I'll try stretching which can only help.

This is a problem I have struggled with throughout the programme, hence It has taken me 19 weeks to reach week 8!

Through trial and error I think I have finally sorted the problem: I only always leave 2 rest days between runs, stretch thoroughly after each run and use a foam roller daily to stretch out any tightness in my muscles. This may be worth giving a try if the problem persists!

I think tight calves can tend to go along with overstretching/landing on heels? Maybe try shorter steps for a while? (I haven't had any trouble with my calves, and I go very slowly with short steps - but that doesn't prove anything - except perhaps that I'm lazy!) I haven't done any stretching either, which is supposed to be very bad. But do I care? Nope! Maybe I'll need to do stretches more when I run further - up to ten minute runs so far.
