Parky parkrun

I had a lovely run in Bushy Park this morning, this time my daughter joined me (first time she's run since the twilight cancer research run back in October). It is infuriating how kids can just run. No training. No effort. Out she goes, trotting along. Couldn't wait for me to say "you dont' have to wait for me if you don't want to", in fact I'd barely finished saying it before she sprinted off. I was glad to see her walking a few paces near the end (she was going in the opposite direction to me, I didn't catch her up!)

I don't think I broke any records today, but at least I'm consistent, I think I came in at around 31-32 minutes again. It was very windy and actually very warm, I could feel myself overheating. I'm going to try running without a water bottle sometime this week, for one of my shorter runs, so that I can confidently drop it for the parkruns. I'm sure with both hands free and no distractions I can start to focus a bit better on building my speed. It was lovely to follow this little kid (couple of feet high) and his mum, just ahead of me. We chatted a little. I also chatted with a couple of other people. I'm still amazed that the wheezing, huffing and puffing woman of 6 months ago was running around Bushy Park with several hundred other people AND holding a (brief admittedly) conversation with some of them :-D

I might have to do the New Years day run too, potentially doing 3 parkruns in 7 days :-o

Hi Vixie, really well done. I did the Cambridge Parkrun this morning, i had to walk a couple of times for a minute or two, otherwise it was OK. Keep going and good luck, Ed x

for sure, but oh so worth it ;-)

Great challenge to do a half marathon straight off, I look forward to hearing how you do with your training and the big day itself.

Well done Vixie. Great to do a run accompanied by family. Don't think I'd get any of mine out on a parkrun! Plan to register before Monday night with NY resolution to do a run in 2013. Good luck & Happy New Year.

well done, and if you do forget to register you can still turn up and run, you just won't get an official time. By the way, it seems many of them have a new years day run...............just saying ;-)

Thanks Vixie. I doubt I'd make the parkrun anyway: got a lunch date with friends some way out of town and need to return the grandchildren to their mother on the way. Quick check shows no parkrun till Saturday. But I HAVE registered!!

Well done Vixie!!! It is amazing how far we have all progressed in such a short time! My nephew who runs, seemed totally amazed when I told him how I often hurt from running. I guess to be young again! It's nice your daughter will go with you on the runs, I bet she is very proud of you!!! Gayle

Thanks :-) Yes, I think she is quite proud of me, although she's getting to the age where she won't admit it, but she's still doing some things with me, for which I am grateful while it lasts :-D
