another Garmin question!!!

I am thinking of buying my husband a Garmin watch for Christmas as he doesn't like taking his phone out with him on runs to measure time/distance. I am a bit confused with all the models and the huge range in prices. I just want a mid priced one that's simple to use that he can just set up and press go and by the end of the run tell how far he has run at what pace and how many calories he has burnt. If it also shows the history of his runs, that would be ideal.

Oh and one other question, does he have to upload the data onto a laptop to be able to see data, History etc or is this available just on the watch?

I've got a Forerunner 10 and it does all that. No heartbeat monitor so if you wanted that you'd need the 110 I think. You can upload from the F10 and it shows you graphs, stats etc of each of your runs, you see them on the map or satelite, it's great. As far as I can remember (I only used mine 5 times before getting wonky knees and moving to the gym) the stats of each run are visible immediately post run on the watch itself and then you get the details when you upload. I set the whole thing up myself so it's absolutely idiot-proof... - not saying your hubby's an idiot, just that it's really easy to use! :-D

I have had the 110 for a couple of years and it has suited me nicely.

We have the forerunner 110's and love them. They also come with the heart monitor. Men's is black with a red stripe. Women's is grey with a pink stripe. Just a suggestion in case your husband decides to gift you as well. ;-) Gayle

Ditto I also have Garmin Forerunner 110 + HRM and love it. Wasn't too expensive from Amazon and they are even cheaper now as there is yet another new one out since I bought mine. Lady's Grey & pink stripe was also small enough for my little wrist.

Got the 110 without HRM and love it - in a lot of ways I think it's better than the 10, but the 10 has that lovely autopause function when you stop running which I could really do with for traffic lights, etc!

Thanks for your advice everyone. I've ordered the 110 (without HRM, as I didn't think he'd be bothered about that just yet).

Come January you may be able to get a bargain price for HRM on its own anyway. Hope he likes his pressie.
