Have only managed 2 runs this week due to the 'inclement weather' (for which read floods, gales, and nonstop torrential rain on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
This morning I went out aiming to attempt Laura's Speed podcast, pretty sure I wouldn't succeed first time. Having worn extra layers on a couple of previous runs and been too hot, I just went out in running tights and long sleeved top. It was really cold and I only felt warm halfway through the run. Brrr. I also noticed during the warm-up walk that the slugs were out in force, had to be careful not to squish any of the horrible things, yuk.
Started the 155 bpm run, and like in the Stepping Stones I found I kept tripping over my feet, hop, skip and jumping to try and keep with the beat. Felt great at 165 bpm, and it was nice doing intervals again. I went down the steep hill and to the river, my route was all under water 3 days ago! Consequently there was a fair bit of mud, puddles and debris along the path but I managed to avoid any disasters. I only started to feel tired for the last fast interval, and did an extra bit of running instead of walking (I have a long walk back up said steep hill so ran on the last bit of flat).
I was amazed that not only did I do it but thoroughly enjoyed the run. It wasn't easy but it was doable. I have come to the conclusion that my pace is better than I thought, and that it's probably due to my short legs and stride that I don't cover more ground - I still haven't done 5k. That's something else I am working on but there really isn't anywhere round here without an ernomous great hill rearing up after about 2.5 miles! With hills, intervals, and stretching the distance I am fully engaged with my ongoing training now!

Well done soozz! I am starting W9 and not near a 5k...I'm blaming it on my short legs. Hubby (smhall) will be close upon graduation and I watch, we are pacing close but he has a greater stride and 10" on me. Sounds like an amazing, pressure free run other then the squishy slugs out and about.
I did Speed yesterday and felt exactly the same - it wasn't easy but do-able. I'm going to do it once a week till it does get easy. Have you tried Stamina yet? That's on my list for tomorrow and if it's nice and challenging too (or even if it's horrible and challenging...) I'm going to do one Speed, one Stamina and one run with my own music every week if poss. Lots to do!
Wow I guess you've had it rough round your neck of the woods this week? Well done on the speed runs. They sound like fun (in a hard work kind of way and can't wait to give them a go!
Well done on doing speed. I'm beginning to sound like a stuck record but I'll say it again anyway "I love speed" and I'm really pleased to hear you enjoyed it too. Its what I call my short sweet run. Good luck with your training sounds good what you are planning on doing each week. It will all help to build up your strength and stamina so before you know it those hills won't be quite so hard to do.
Ah, thanks. I'm still not what you'd call a natural runner (still not done 5k) but I AM hooked! How long till you're out of plaster? Bet you can't wait. X
Hopefully Friday afternoon, in which case, I'll be running on Saturday -- or maybe even Friday itself. Can't wait x.
btw it's p***ing down here (but 23 degrees) so our first taste of autumn. Hubby has warned me not to get too excited about running fresh out of plaster in case I trip and break something else...
Hey Soozz, well done you. I must say I did laugh a little when you were describing dancing missing the slugs. Sounds like you did we'll lol. I must give the speed one a go. Have fun
