I really thought I would not manage to run 8 mins but I managed it again without stopping, really dreading the 3rd run, such a BIG jummp from 8 mins to 20 mins, but I know everyone on here seems to manage it.
wk 5 2nd run: I really thought I would not... - Couch to 5K

The jump is hard but it's the mental side of things now, you have to not let your mind win the battle as you know your body can do this. And if you get fed up through the run then just keep going & I promise you the high after finishing the run will be worth any amount of sweat & tears you had to get there. I know you can do this & this is THE run that makes you really see how far you have come. Good luck!!!

Hi Jan,
Try not to worry about the longer run. Start off really gently, a slower pace than you used for the 8 minute runs, you're trying to conserve energy so you can finish. Concentrate on relaxing into a good rhythm, feeling comfortable and smooth. The program will have helped you learn how to pace yourself. If in doubt, slow down - you can always speed up later if you want to. Keep a picture in your head of just how great you're going to feel when you finish. Plan the jubilant blog you're going to share with us
Good luck ! Remember you didn't expect to manage 8 minutes so you can continue to exceed your expectations....
It was my favourite run, even better than graduating

Hi litteljan-I know what you mean. I am doing my W5R3 tomorrow morning in the common with the park run people and I am so nervous that I want to skip it and try W6R1 instead. Somehow W6R1 that looks easier (because of the intervals) than W5R3.

Hi littlejan, don't worry about it! I did Week 5 Day 2 with relative ease and went into the 20 minute run reasonably confidently - ha! Laura told me I had done 10 minutes and I couldn't run any more. My shins were really hurting and I just turned for home. Took two days off and this morning - ta da! I ran for the 20 minutes and then another 5 just because I could! It still wasn't easy and I was shattered afterwards, but I did it, and so can you! So what if you don't do it first time? Not everyone gets to the 5k in 9 weeks. The point is that you're still out there running. Go for it!
