Is anyone else a type 1 diabetic?
I'm not, but I'd be interested in the answers; my brother has Type I Diabetes and was asking me about c25k but was concerned about starting as he didn't know how to control his readings. When he used to do sport at school he'd always have a chocolate bar immediately before (on the doctors' recommendations) and that would maintain his blood sugar throughout but he was hoping there would be a different way around it as that kind of defeats the object of the run doesn't it?!
I am, and have completed the programme. What I've found is thats its very easy to overdo the sugar before the run, sipping on lucozade etc, then its high after the run. the best thing to do is check your sugar level before you run, if its ok, then just do the run , then check again before you drive anywhere. I've found my goes down quite quickly in the hours afterwards. If you run outside, I'd take some sugary sweets with you just in case. On the whole, after all the exercise you will get a better balance, but your body is not used to all this exercise so it can take a while. You can go on the British Diabetic Assoc website, I think they have stuff on there. In the main, just do plenty of testing and don't overload before hand. Good luck!
