Good morning everyone..

It is the second week of December... and here I am, late, but here, opening the corner, stoking up the fire and plumping the cushions... Cranberry Muffins today , gluten free too... ginger cake and some delicious crispy pastries ready once more, to bring us all together again!

The darker days are well established, certainly here in the Moorlands, Inclement weather and darkness creeping in.

But, as ever, whatever the weather, we are able, hopefully, to still find the right time and the opportunity to complete our runs.

For those folk who have not visited the Corner before, welcome...grab a cushion and sit a while.

This is a place, here on the C25K forum, where we can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

There is a welcome here for all of us... Newbies, returners, and even new Graduates, before you make your way over to Bridge to 10K for some new ideas to take your running further!

Okay... thoughts for today ? Friends and friendship.

I am struggling right now, trying to juggle a whole lot of stuff! This making it tricky for me to get regular runs in... and sometimes, I feel very isolated in my struggle and then... I pop in to the forums and suddenly, I am not alone.

Other folk are here, other folk are struggling. too; runs are hard, runs are not happening, life is throwing, not just curved balls but the bat as well!

Suddenly... the load feels lighter. I read your exploits, I read your replies and I start to think... it is not just me!

So. that got me thinking even more about running, runners and friends. Friends, including family. But mainly, our running friends here.!

They are our heroes and heroines, our inspirations.

NOW, we're talking... and TALKING is what we LOVE to do.... about every aspect of our runs: our routes, our stats, distance, pace, speed, running gear, running events, weather, and even injury … we love talking about running.

Our running friends are trustworthy, and reliable...there for us no matter what. They understand!

Our running friends, support us and encourage us; the chatting about running, gives us ideas, strategies, motivation and maybe even a little bit of healthy, fun based rivalry ?

We love to talk, but, we also know when to be silent; when, during a run, it is perfect to run along, shoulder to shoulder. Simply enjoying the run and the companionship of the friend at your side. No need for words. This happens even when we are running on our own. With friends here, we never run, alone !

I am in some ways quite gregarious, but in others, not. I do not make friends easily... I think I am tad too loopy; I am mainly a lone runner. I had been running for quite a while before I even thought of running with anyone else. I was quite happy with this, running and then rambling about my runs... but maybe as time passed, there was a subconscious thought that I maybe, I wasn't good enough.

I was not aware of it and have never thought it, since. I run for me.

But, when I have run with others, over the years since, I have loved every moment of it.. every runner I have run with, has been warm hearted and encouraging, supportive and often inspirational.

I have made some of my dearest friends here, through running. Friendships made here, that will endure, whether I have been able to meet these friends face to face or not.

Now... whilst we are all here, sitting , relaxing and basking in the warmth of the fire, I would love to know how many of you have made friends through your running.

Friendships made here on the forums, in running groups, maybe at a first Park Run or other events.

If you are just starting on your running journey, maybe you have not had chance to make friendships here yet, so look around, read each other's posts. Find folk who are on the same week as you, team up, on your posts maybe... We have had whole groups of folk here on C25K, all reaching the Graduation Podium together, after supporting each other through the nine weeks. Much online celebrating has gone on.

I do know that if you do that, you will realise, how much you have in common, and you will experience friendship that will carry you forward in your running and beyond.

So, pop in, please and do let us know what is happening with your running right now and see how many of us, without realising it, already have loads of friends, right here

Hello! Well maybe a small muffin later?Good to see you here and have your company.

I do know, you have made many, good friends here, and just how many you have supported with your posts and replies, including me; especially through tricky times.

Meeting with running chunks can be so rewarding...and if course, a heck of a lot of fun!

Thank you so much for popping in today...sit a while before heading off x

Good morning Floss, good post from you, most of my running friends are the people I meet at parkruns, sadly the person who I ran with when he was doing C25K and took me to different parkruns died almost 3 years ago, however, I do know a lot of runner's who I meet on a Saturday morning.

I have all my Christmas stuff ready, plenty of chocolate and special seasonable boxes of biscuits, where I live in Central Scotland missed the worst of the weekend storms, I managed to run a short 3K on Saturday morning and this afternoon I intend to run another 3K near the park only a two minutes walk from my home, the weather up to 9 o'clock was sunny but it's got foggy, the temperature - 1C, so I'll wrap up for that short run early this afternoon. 😊 🏃🏾, have a great day ✔️

Hi AlMorr ...

Good to see you! That's so sad about your friend. It hasn't stopped you running though.. and you do loads of different park runs.

You have made so many friends here, on the forums and supported so many folk too.

We all thank you for that x

Treats lined up for the festive period sounds just perfect to me...and you will of course be running around over that time. A busy time...For those folk who don't know this.. Al is my own favourite, Father Christmas..x

Thank you so much for popping in and sharing xxx

P.S

Stay warm x

I am staying warm Floss, I have just come back from running another short 3K in fog with the temperature just above freezing, my time was 23;43 which is slow compared with the 3K I ran on Saturday, my time then was 19:10 in much warmer weather.

Hi Oldfloss and C25K friends.

Sadly life has taken a very difficult turn for me. Unfortunately my best friend of over 36 years passed away when I was visiting her a couple of weeks ago. She had not been feeling well all day so went to bed early and I found her the following morning. The ambulance crew were very supportive, although the police had to be involved as she was only 57 years old so it was an explained death. The post mortem result showed that it was a bleed on the brain, so she wouldn’t have suffered, nor probably have known anything about it. I can take some solace from that, at least.

My family, friends and particularly friends from running club and Parkrun have rallied around and helped me through everything so far. I have found running a great help in marshalling my thoughts and getting on with life as best I can.

Once the funeral has taken place (which I think will be after Christmas now) I will reassess my progress and maybe organise some counselling if I feel I need it. In the meantime I will carry on running and helping out at Cardiac Rehab, which I’ve been doing for just over a year now.

Take care everyone, look after yourselves and your loved ones.

Oh David... such sad, sad news... and you have already gone through and moved on from so much... you shared lovely times together I know..... no words can express the feelings of sadness.

Easy to say, life goes on, but so , so much harder to do. So, well done you , for moving onwards and allowing your friends running, and non running to support you. I know you supported me, when Mr OF had his heart attack last year.

Friendships are priceless and need to be treasured.

You may need support yes... I still have my walk/talk counselling , and as and when if you message me. I will give you some links. Outdoor walking and talking has kept me on track ... especially now x

Carry on,,, slow and steady and know we are alwyas here for you, any time you need a friend xxx

Hi David,

Sincere condolances for your loss.

The shock of losing your dear friend in that manner, may be with you for quite a while.

You do have much to keep you busy, looking after your mum and with your volunteering at the Cardio Rehab clinic, you are helping many folk get back on their feet.

I know you are having fun with your own running, but must miss having your friend around.

Thank goodness you were staying that night, as terrible as it must have been, she was not alone. Take comfort in that.

Thinking of you.

💜xxx

Hi Oldfloss.

I have W9r2 lined up for later. I would like to thank everyone for the help support and encouragement that I have received since joining this forum.

My stepsons motivated me to start running when they entered the Cardiff half marathon recently. It was so inspiring and emotional to watch all the runners.

They ran for a cancer charity because their dad passed away a couple of years ago after a long illness. He was a great bloke and we all got on really well. He spent his last few months with us and he had the comfort of his sons around him.

My eldest stepson is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of his father so for my last W9 run we are going to do it together in honour of my friend and his dad.

I have been pondering what to do for my last C25k and I think this would be a good thing to do.
