WHITE RABBITS and Pinch Punch, first of the month .

Welcome to the Corner and welcome to MAY ! Blimey,,, when did that happen!

Here we are again . Here I am and I hope, some of you!

The corner has been Spring cleaned, the new cushions are out, coffee, smoothies and loads of healthy and tasty snacks a 'plenty!

How are you all? Gosh I have missed you all here.

HUGE thanks to MissUnderstanding for keeping everything going whilst I had a relaxed, recharging time over April.

I did get some runs in, despite the very many April showers... and I did manage a wonderful meet up race on the Monsal trail with a few forum friends too!

So:

What is May going to bring us? Well, I love this month and it always makes me want to head out with a spring in my step and a song in my heart... how about you?

I am hoping to see a few new faces here this month. I think some people may miss a lot of what is going on, within our great forums...lots to see and read, tips and advice and of course all the wonderful posts relating all our own running experiences.

Which lead me very nicely, on to the thoughts for today!

Look at the title for this post. Hmmm!

Walk and talk... highlighted and standing out there. Why ?

Quite simply, because for all our runners, not just the Newbies, those two words are so important. Whatever level of running you are on.

The only exception ? If you are an experienced elite runner, running the race of your life, to break a record, or, running away from a wild beast! ( No lions here)!

If, as you should have done, you have read the, How to Run C25K guide, then those two words are so familiar.

Running, your way and your happy pace, yes, but...particularly as beginners, running,

“...at an easy pace; which is one where you can easily hold a conversation, as you would when walking”.

Okay, confession time... are you doing that?

Be honest. Are you, really?

I cannot know your answer, but after reading many posts, on this forum and on Bridge to10K too, I can guess. Sometimes, some of us, under some circumstances are not.

Usually the give away, is a mention of a niggle, a twinge or an injury, but not always, sometimes, it is the word , struggle or hard.

They are mentioned in a previous post!

healthunlocked.com/strength...

Okay!

The main aim of this C25K plan? It is to build your basic stamina and endurance, and get you running for thirty minutes, safely and enjoyably.

Yes, it really is as simple as that.

For all our other runners too, but particularly our new graduates, this applies, Our running should be safe, and enjoyable. As we move on , there are times when we want to push a little harder, challenge ourselves , listening to our body the whole time, but upping the pace a tad. There is a difference between that and going flat out in each and every run.

I do, sometimes, ( and I have been running for over eight years), up the pace. A burst here and there, a last flying finish of a few metres or so, ( really ) .... not for a medal or glory, I do it, partly to make sure, yes, there is something left in the tank. I do it for me, It can be a great feeling.

But wait. Do it when you have finished this programme. That is the time to start moving in and making choices.

The essence of this programme is steady progression.

Walking the walk, yes talking the talk, and running in the right way:)

So there we are.. we know what we need to do.

I need to know now... how many of you are feeling that yes, you are doing it right... or maybe feeling you are pushing too hard. It will be your runs, your pace and we are all so, so different, but you will know if you are doing it right, for you!

Looking forward to seeing some of you here... and to sharing your thoughts. We are waiting to hear them :)

Oldfloss x

Walking and talking is a thing I do a lot of on a Thursday morning with my weekly walking group, running and talking however is a bit more tiring, this morning I ran a 8K on my own but the two previous runs which were a 5K at parkrun and a 3K last week I had company and was talking to another runner while running, that's fine for a short while but if talking all the time you can be very tired at the end of the run.I notice that there are a few newcomers to our forum, I suppose that's something to do with the London Marathon and promotions for C25K on TV during the run, all newcomers are warmely welcomed🏃🏾✔️

E Hello Al.Yes if you did actually talk throughout your run, it would be tiring!

Just recognising what feels comfortable for you, might be a better description..

You had a super run this morning.. well done you..I did a short 4K...but fun one, up my hill.

I hope the weather is improving for you up there.

Some drier runs maybe.

I enjoyed the warmth this morning. It made a nice change!.

Thank you for popping in, Al. Always a welcome here for you x

Hi, Oldfloss, I’ve just arrived at the hospital for my appointment for adjustment, hoping to start week 7 tomorrow.. IF the niggles can be fixed today. I found the 25 minute run in week 6 very tough.. it’s a big IF.. 🤞🤷🏻‍♀️

How did it go???

Thank you for asking.. I was at the hospital for four hours.. a valve blocked with glue and silicon meant the vacuum seal wasn’t working.. hopefully fixed. A really lovely new prosthetist, only been there a month but 40 years experience so that was brilliant. Shattered after the long day, so a migraine today. I’ve been gardening and walked the dog in the woods this afternoon, but no run. I’ve got a couple of other stresses going on (friends with problems rather than my own) and Garmin body battery currently on 7, so I may not attempt to run again just yet..
