Not as often as others will no doubt suggest π.
Ideally, you'd have 2-3 pairs on the go ... but that's an understandable stretch for many.
The usual suggestion is after about 500 miles (800 km). But honestly it varies a lot and depends on what sort of surfaces you're running on.
Rather than a specific mileage look at the condition of your shoes.
When you get a new pair they will be sturdy and stiff. If you try to bring the toe towards the heel you won't get very far. Over time the stresses caused by running will soften your shoes. The support they give will diminish. Once you can fold your shoe in half you need a new pair.
I suppose the exact length of time your shoes last will depend on lots of things, your weight, how often you run, your gait, the terrain, the quality of the shoes etc etc.
If you google 'how long do running shoes last?' it will say 500-800 km. My shoes are generally pretty tired after about 400-500 km. Once the distance covered gets to this I'll start regularly checking them and when they start to get bendy I replace them.
Having had a tendon injury which the physio said was due to running in knackered shoes I'm maybe a bit more picky about this than other people (I'd had those shoes over 10 years - 10 years in a cupboard then C25K and an over ambitious Parkrun).
Happy running!

This advice does not apply to barefoot shoes. π€£
I've just bought this new trainers. I've had my old ones since lock down. It depends on wear and tear. The soles of my old runners have started to wear and are quite grubby from running in wet weather. I did have to stop running for quite a few months with a ham string injury, so I haven't used them not stop all this time. The new ones are so light and comfy. I can't wait to get out in them. Also, I always buy my shoes in the ASIC sale
I retire my shoes when worn out. After retirement I clean them up and use around the house in place of slippers. I try to keep two pairs in rotation for running.
It does vary, with running style, type of surface, and many other factors, at the moment I have 3 pairs on the go at the moment, one has done just under 40km, I use those for race use mainly ( not very fast ), the others have done just under 600km and they are my main running shoes for training etc, I also have a pair of trail shoes, but not sure of the distance they have covered. Hope this helps.

I only wear Hoka's. I get a good 300 - 350 miles as daily trainers and then another 150 - 200 as run around shoes. When my legs or feet start to complain I know that pair has ended its trainer days. I keep 3 pair in rotation and a 4th that's just for the gym.
