Today was the day of my 5K race and as I had predicted, it turned out to be very wet! The late winter rain didn't stop once and I got a good soaking! 😂
Thanks to all of your suggestions on my earlier post asking for help, I was prepared both physically and mentally. I accepted that I was going to get wet and found I actually enjoyed the experience.
I took a towel, spare clothing and trainers to change into before driving the half hour home. My mobile was safely packed inside a plastic bag. I arrived home a little damp, but not wet and cold.
In addition to all your tips, pre-race I treated myself to some running leggings and lightweight tops made of polyester, which didn't seem to soak up the water as much as my usual cotton running gear.
In these races, I'm very much the last one back, today not helped by starting 15 minutes after everyone else, but I do love these big, organised races. All of the 10K distance runners would shout encouragement as they ran past me on their second lap... the organisers and marshals are friendly and supportive. I'm finding that runners really are a lovely group of people!
Thank you all for your help with preparing for my first very wet run!
