Trigger word… and it’s not walkies!

After a sedentary day working from home yesterday I was ready for some fresh air. Normally I’m an early morning runner as you know, but sometimes there are other things to think about… is it just me or does anyone else plan their runs around having the faff of washing / drying hair afterwards? It takes me ages to tame my locks to be presentable for work so I tend not to run on work mornings. Also I’m having my hair done at the hairdresser this morning so I didn’t want to wash it this morning! I did have another motivation because a new running T shirt may have fallen into my basket in my namesake’s sale and it had arrived so I wanted to try it out! I digress..anyway so I put on said running gear and I heard a thump thump - the dog’s tail began wagging,-she had been snoozing with legs akimbo to all intents dead to the world, but she obviously now recognises the bright leggings and no sooner did I say “do you fancy a run?” then I had a mad spaniel zooming around who literally couldn’t wait for me to put my running shoes and the harness on. Honestly she’s been bitten by the bug, she never goes this mad when I say walkies even though she loves a sniffathon as any respectable spaniel would.

So we did our warm up walk, business completed by doggo ( right near a bin yay!) and we set off at a leisurely pace so I thought, but the voice in my ear told me we’d done a speedy 1k so she clearly is still not over her rookie over-enthusiasm at the off. Nor have we quite cracked it’s my pace not hers! I didn’t have any set route plan yesterday as I’m deliberately not putting pressure on myself for distance so we trogged along for 30 minutes with no dramas. The lovely old lady who has owned the corner shop near home for ever always has a water bowl outside which Ebony gratefully partook of and then we were done!

Apologies for the saga, my main point is that I’m really enjoying running for pleasure, my body seems to be coping with the regular running so far without any niggles 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼and I’m at that place in my head where I think I might do a 5K over the weekend but if I don’t it won’t be the end of the world. Apparently a mini heatwave is coming so it will definitely be an early one!

Happy running everyone 🏃🏼‍♀️

😂😂😂 You are definitely not alone there!! I sometimes try and run at the pace of “can’t be bothered to wash my hair after this run”. I’m not very good at it!

Buying running kit is one if the unexpectedly wonderful things about being a runner. Plus, the more you’ve got, the less regulars you have to put a wash on!! You’ve got a smart run buddy for him to recognise the outfit… we’ll have to make him a graduate badge too!!! Great run. ❤️

yes of course - I’m actually saving money by spending money !! I love this and am going to always use this as my excuse. 🤣 I do actually have a (very small I hasten to add) separate set of drawers for all my running gear separated into tops bottoms and socks /sports bras/ headbands etc.

She’s definitely a smart cookie! And once she’s sorted out her over enthusiastic starts she will have definitely earned her graduate badge.!

I love your post. I sometimes see runners and their canine pals and, stupidly, I start making up conversations in my head between them! I'm also the owner of unruly locks, and yes a run means hair wash and trying, unsuccessfully, to tame them. Sounds like you're in a good place. Happy running 🏃‍♀️
