My son videoed me during my 5k Santa Dash last year. I was rewatching this and despite having a 36 inch inside leg, I have a very short stride. It got me through C25K, but I'm wondering if there is any value in trying to lengthen my stride. I'm an old bugger and I find myself almost staggering at the end of a run. So I'm wondering if my short stride is tiring me unnecessarily, and if a longer (and hopefully more relaxed) stride might be better.
TIA

Hi Jjaggii , personally I wouldn't worry about your stride length. If you try to increase it unnaturally you might end up overstriding and more likely prone to knee injury - see this Runner's World article: runnersworld.com/training/a...
Fwiw I'm five-foot-nothing with short legs and have a teeny-weeny stride. I've only ever found myself staggering (and feeling sick and dizzy into the bargain) at the end of a run once. That was because I'd overdone it by running further than I'd ever done before while not particularly well-hydrated or fuelled. My stride had nothing to do with it.
I totally agree with Cmoi . Don’t worry about your stride length. I doubt that’s what’s making you tired at the end of runs. It’s worth experimenting with what you’re eating before runs and making sure you’re well hydrated. Perhaps try taking your runs a little steadier if you’re staggering at the end. If I’ve gone out a bit fast, this sometimes happens to me.
