Please don’t shout at me but…

Week 6 Run 3 and I just kept going and did 5k in 39.42

I felt absolutely fine after 25 minutes and pretty good by the end.

I did stop briefly once to re tie my laces but I hope I can be excused that.

I have no plans to run again until at least Tuesday so will recover ok I hope.

Actually it was 38.57 according to my watch.

Your enthusiasm is contagious & I can feel your excitement that you did it & it felt so easy.

Experienced runners will alert you to the micro tears that happen in our muscles every time we run… you may not feel them today, but unless you build up slowly they won’t repair properly & the next thing you will be on the injury couch & unable to run at all…starting from scratch is no fun either.

We all want to see you happily get through to 9:3 safely! Even then we have a period of consolidating to build up muscle strength.

So fab that you are enjoying it. It’s a scientifically proven program that can be trusted. Have fun 🤩

Nobody is going to shout at you. That’s really not what we’re about here. We want runners to build up in a way that’s safe and sensible so we will always point out when people are doing things that are risky.

It’s really not a good idea to extend runs beyond what the programme dictates. Many new runners get injured by pushing themselves too far, too early. There are lots of posters here who have shared their experiences of when exactly that has happened to them. It would be such a shame to end up on the injury couch after all your hard work. Overuse injuries can come on really suddenly and without warning.

I can totally understand getting carried away, but I’d strongly encourage you to go back to following the couch to 5k programme as it is set out.

well that’s me suitably chastised. I did mention a planned recovery; I’m neither stupid nor naive. I won’t go on but I’ll say goodbye.

Hi Zigzag, well that is a brilliant time, about right by my books for a 5k at the end of C25K. You are clearly breezing it. You anticipated some negative responses in your header (and head) and in the thread you implied that others had said you might be stupid or naive! I can't see that in anyone's reply so again I think you have a gremlin somewhere barking at you! It's quite possible especially if it's a non conformist type of gremlin.

I'm not an ambassador or mentor etc but have loved being on the forum and seeing the support and time they and fellow C25K journeypeople (🤣) give to each other encouraging and occasionally making always positive and well meant advice.

I sneakily extended a few runs after week 5, generally by a minute or two (not 8 or 9, excessive 😁) so I didn't have much to shout about. The C25K programme is just that. And boringly because it's been said so many times before the 5K bit in terms of Unlocking Health, this forum, is aspirational in extremis for most people. By way of example Parkrun 5k time average across all runners , who are mostly but not exclusively experienced runners is just under thirty minutes. IT IS ABOUT RUNNING THIRTY MINUTES THOUGH AT 9/3. Sorry that's a bit shouty!

My head says people doing C25K are on a spectrum of fitness and potential when they start and you are luckily at the best end of that spectrum and your 💓 wants to shout out about it! Just a big well done but do tell us if you ever get an injury!

I would absolutely agree with what has been said.No-one is 'Shouting at you'

But it was not a good idea and we wouldn't advice others to do the same .
