Painful Achilles’

I’ve just recently had a gait analysis and found that my left foot does not land straight however my right is fine. I have been advised to get a neutral shoe & go up 1.5 size up. Along with to purchase magnesium oil & rub on the painful area & do stretch exercises. Im reluctant to buy another pair of shoes as I’m getting the impression they just want to sell me the shoes. I’m looking for a 2nd opinion.

I've no idea whether the advice you've been given is good or not Weelon because I'm a random stranger on the internet.

If you went to a specialist running shop and they took the time to do a gait analysis and give you extra advice, I would hope and imagine they're not just interested in selling the shoes. On the face of it the recommendations seem appropriate, but I can't give an informed opinion because I don't know you, nor am I a running or health professional.

If you're experiencing problems, then don't run in pain, have a break, and then see what happens. But if the problem is related to your current shoes then it's unlikely to go away.

I can sympathise with your suspicion, so you do have to find a second opinion that you trust more than the first.

As stated by Cmoi we on this forum may be well intentioned but most of us are not trained in the intricacies of running shoe fitting. I would suggest going to another running shop and seeing if they give a different recommendation.

I would give more credence to someone who worked in a reputable running shop than to any of our well intentioned members.

A doubt might be raised if you had sought advice from a non runner employed in one of the sports goods sheds, that are more interested in pushing boxes than building a good relationship with their customers.

Ultimately it will have to be your decision.

The correct shoes can make a huge difference.

Best of luck.
