Anyone had any experience with achilles weakness?

I went to the physio this morning and she did the Thompson Test and its not torn, however I can’t rise to my tip toes on that leg - so what's going on?

This was preceded by a couple of weeks of a sore achilles which I (stupidly) ran through, crunchy creaky crepitus and all, now it doesn't hurt at all but is extremely weak and floppy feeling? what's going on?

I'm hesitant to walk on it let alone run, but am training for a half marathon and was really building up to my intense training period and want to figure out what this is ASAP - any advice would be appreciated thanks

Having looked at some of your posts, I am not sure where you are in your running... ?

Our advice, always, would be to go and see your doctor to check out what is going on, before you do any more running at all.

Speaking from my own experience after an Achilles tear... ( not running related), if it is floppy... there is a problem.

I do hope you get it sorted, and maybe then join us here on the C25K programme, to build back again?

The person most qualified to advise you is your physio, who has examined you, knows your history and understands the complex structures involved.

My only purely running injury was a "tweaked" Achilles, which was painful though not crippling. I stopped running and when it was pain free I started eccentric heeldrops while standing on a step. I also cycled, on the informal advice of my physio friend, which kept the joint mobile without any impact stresses.

I had to stop running for over a month and the following build up was cautious.

Please don't let your plan to do a half marathon make you do too much too soon after injury. There will always be other events to take part in but only if your body is strong with no lingering susceptibility to injury.

Take care and get professional medical advice.

Hi Louisamith , sorry to hear you're experiencing problems.

I agree with others who've replied that you really must take advice from your physio and other medical and health professionals, not from a bunch of random strangers on an internet forum.

Having read some of your previous posts, I think that our speculating is more likely to worry you than help you. The one thing I will say is that if you're experiencing any pain or discomfort it's not the time to do intense training.

Please get further advice from qualified people, and look after yourself.

I have suffered with a problem achilles for many years and agree with the advice given, speak to your physio. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have found that I can run without any issues as long as I don't push the speed too much so I have slowed down. Admittedly I don't run half marathons, will get to 10k eventually but the point is that I am still running, completely pain free. Good luck 😀

Hi Louise I would be super careful and get a2nd opinion. I had had a similar problem (my physio said it was a calf tear) and then in a tennis match it snapped completely and I went straight to A&E and into a cast for a week then 6 weeks in a boot ….. I’ve worked hard and had a great recovery but wouldn’t wish the experience on anyone, it’s devastating. So I would get a scan asap before you even walk on it …. If it’s partially ruptured then walking on it now will really make recovery even harder . Good luck 🤞
