2 years since graduating - some musings

I’ve just realised it’s 2 years ago today since I graduated couch to 5k

Here’s are just a couple of musings for any newbies to running and C25K that I was never made aware of…. Oh I was a lifelong non-runner until the tender age of 51.

1. No one told me running was addictive.

2. Clear a drawer now for all the running garb you are about to collect. I think I’m upto 8 running tops.

3. I’m having to change all my clothes as nothing fits anymore, an unexpected consequence of losing 2 1/2 stone - I didn’t do it for the weight loss either.

4. The worn out running shoes collection - I just can’t bear to part with them even though my first proper pair are absolutely done in.

5. Why have I just entered a half marathon- first ever booked event and I’ll be 54 😂 oops. Did I say it’s addictive.

6. Oh, there’s that collection of running tech.

I could carry on….

If you’re thinking nah, I’ll never run for half an hour - trust me, if I can, you can. No one who knows me can believe I took up running and quite enjoy it.

If you look back at my post from 2 years ago you’ll find my summary of the initial journey from non-runner to addict.

Most of all - enjoy it at your pace!

I am exactly the same with old running shoes. Mine become walking shoes, then garden shoes, then… they sit in the cupboard! It’s so hard to say goodbye. We’ve been through so much together!

Same with kit. I don’t think I’ve bought clothes or shoes that aren’t for running in for months.

I really enjoyed your post and can relate to so much of it. I did c25k in January and will be (hopefully) running a half marathon in October. It’s such a great programme and running is certainly addictive. I’d recommend it to anyone. Good luck with your half marathon training.

Amazing how addictive it is isn't it? I never believed I could run for 5 minutes, let alone 30, then when I got there, the thought of 5k, then 60 mins, then 10k all seemed huge hurdles. But along the way I became addicted too. It's good to have a forum of similar addicts to discuss things with to spare our friends and family!
