Second attempt started!

Well, hi everyone, I'm back! Having had to abandon my first C25K attempt at w3r3 due to a knee injury from falling into a boat (!), I started again with W1R1 on Monday. I could feel every lb of weight I gained from our lovely week in Seville eating far too many tapas, so the run was a combination of easy and hard which was weird. Easy because I knew the score, and hard because of the horrible feeling of extra tummy wobbling around 😳 This will not do!

So I did a core exercise routine yesterday and a stretch routine this morning and will do my 2nd run at lunchtime. This girl is on a mission, and I'm so grateful for all the posts motivating me to keep going.

This time next year, Rodney....!

Well done for getting back out there. Nice to have the mental image of doing it before. That definitely helps. Enjoy your runs and keep checking in. We’ll be here cheering you on

Thanks, I definitely will! It's a lovely sunny day which is far nicer than the weather when I did my first attempt (I even ran on the day of one of the storms which was a bit scary!!) But today looks fab.

Nice weather certainly helps. Enjoy

Welcome to the forum and well done on restarting.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

EDIT

Rereading your post and your biog I think that you would be better off just sticking to the plan as it is written.......not jumping ahead.

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.

Take care.

Yes, I'm starting again from scratch as I don't want to take any chances with either my knee or my heart! I'm in no hurry to get to the end. Having NEVER been a runner, I'm just super excited to even be stepping outside the door and slow jogging again!

Into a boat? Don’t people normally fall out of them? 🤣. I say this, I once broke my wrist falling up some stairs.

Well done getting restarted… and you fuelled your for it well in advance, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing 🤣. Core work is always beneficial to running, so maybe that lovely tapas helped you get on with some cross training.

You can do this, you’ve already beaten the hardest third. Just watch out for the boats, especially if there’s a lookout with a bushy white beard on it.

I can't even explain what happened but needless to say I came off far worse than the boat - but nothing broken thank goodness!

Huge well done you. Many have started this and had setbacks, many too empathising with that feeling of the excesses of hedonistic pleasures!

Many of us have begun again and with success... so as IannodaTruffe says... take it gently.

Slow and steady is going to get you there and with some core strength and stamina work on some of your rest days, will pay dividends:)

Great advice, Oldfloss. Yesterday's w1r1 went well (slowly!) and I've just finished a cardio workout. I'm also drinking far more now, borne out by the number of loo trips!

I guess it's a good thing that I could probably overtake myself walking when I'm running (if you get what I mean!!)

I do and believe me, slow and steady does take you to the most amazing places.

Everything evolves quite naturally at your own pace, until one day suddenly, you find your own particular happy pace and you just get stronger and stronger!

Good hydration every day does pay dividends. Linked with a healthy eating regime... putting the fuel in, to get the performance out:)

Well done! I also started again this week having sustained a knee injury in W3, although no boats were involved! Best wishes to you and fingers crossed that we’ll both make it this time 🤞🏻 X

How weird is that! It's nice to know that we are both 2nd timers with similar injuries at the same point in our journeys. We will cross the finish line together, grinning like Cheshire cats! X
