Consolidating in the fog

Today was a mixture of 30 min consolidation, incorporating a bit of jog/run/sprint to make it interesting - noting that the run/sprint element isn’t quite what you might imagine! But it does show me that I can move at a different pace when I try! It was definitely warmer than it has been recently, hence our foggy seafront; the photo is out into the gloom of the Solent, you’ll need to imagine the Isle of Wight in the distance and the sound of the fog horns - they don’t photograph well! Happy running folks!

It’s not quite the gorgeous view of the Solent you sometimes get but I’ve seen that often enough to have it fixed in my head! I’m also adding more speedy intervals and quite enjoying them. I’m trying to find suitable places where I won’t terrify pedestrians by coming round blind corners at speed.Enjoy consolidating!

Thanks MissU! Yes, it’s an amazing view and it always makes me chuckle when you can’t see the Island - it looks like it’s fallen off the edge somehow or someone’s stolen it!

Jog, run, sprint , that sounds impressive. Every time I do anything to upset my rhythm I go to pieces and get super tired really quickly. Well done you.

Thanks SaR but I confess - it’s the name on the app! I might feel as though I’m moving faster but I suspect an onlooker probably wouldn’t notice the difference 😆!

Fog in the channel, The Solent, caused by humid air from Africa mixing with cooler water over Solent, even in dense fog you could still run along the front at Southsea as they say "you know it like the back of your hand" glad you enjoyed your walk/run/sprint today, congratulations.

Thanks Al, you’re quite right - it’s not difficult running along our seafront even when it’s foggy!

In the east of Scotland sea fog is called haar, usually it comes in late Spring or during the summer months, it has a cooling effect so if it is foggy its a good time to run until the sun comes out, sometimes that haar can spread as far west as Glasgow.

Hi OGR, That sounds great - what's your app? X

Oldgirlruns profile image

It’s just called JogRunSprint and you can find it on the App Store. You can set up the elements how you like - I just do 8 sets of 30/20/10 secs but will look to increase that at some point.

Yaay! Good for you! 👏👏👏😄

Intervals definitely speed you up a bit over time and make it interesting, that fog cleared eventually and gave me a good over the downs walk, that’s made my legs wonder what’s going on

Thanks Sola, I love a walk in the country too - but getting back to the sea is always best!

Glad to see the fog had gone by the time we returned to Southsea Oldgirlruns. Sounds like you had a fun run. 8 sets of JRS is sufficient; if you get to the stage where you think you can do more, you need to increase the speed .

Yes it was all clear by the time we brought the grandchildren down to the front mid-morning - ice creams were required! Glad you enjoyed your run Oldgirlruns

Ooo, my son lives in Southsea and rang me while he was out walking his dog in the fog this morning. I heard the fog horns over the phone and they were really atmospheric! What a great time to be running!

Yes, the foghorns were going off like crazy, then bingo! Out came the sun!

Well done you 👏🏻👏🏻 I gave up on JRS, far too hard!

I confess it’s probably set up at the easiest setting but anything that gets me moving at different speeds to my normal plod must be a Good Thing!

Love the gloomy picture definitely not reflected in your running. Just a thought, have you tried Nike Run Club,? I have been using it and it has gently improved my running.

Yes I’ve recently used the 60 second fartleks which actually guide you better through the paces than JRS. They do a 30 secs session too.

Hi hamit, no I haven’t tried it but I know lots of people really like it. I’ll have to give it a whirl!

I tend to do the 5k plus runs. I like the changing gears the coach gets you to do. One slight prob is that the NRC distances are always more than the Garmin, which gives me some great times😁

How atmospheric. Do you run on the beach or the promenade? Well done on mixing it up and getting out there 🙂
