Welcome... there are literally hundreds of us here... start the C25K programme, keep posting and you will find a whole load of folk on the same path as you.

If you want company on your runs where you are located, then, check out your local running groups. If they are a good group, they will cater for all levels of runner and many do have groups that follow the C25K plan.

Do please check out these pinned post before you start the programme:)

We look forward to your first post!

If you let us know your approximate location (please don't be too specific), someone may be able to suggest a running group in that area.

Also, there are many parkruns spread across the UK. Usually the organisers of your nearest one will know about local running groups, and may link to local groups on the "links" section of their event page. It can be a bit hit-and-miss. Some do, some don't.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

In my opinion you are better off doing C25k on your own at your pace with nobody to let you down and just the 123,000+ members of this forum as your running buddies.

You might look at Run Together although I personally have no experience of them runtogether.co.uk/#_ga=2.61...

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

If you keep posting here we will keep you running.

Enjoy your journey.

Well, your c25k coach is your running buddy for now, Steve! It can be tricky running with another real person as you'll be stopping and starting quite a lot to begin with. It'll be a different matter once you're further through the plan , of course....😊

Yeah I’m stopping a lot at the moment but I just walk fast then run again took me 2 hours for 10 k run just trying to get my cardio up thank you.

Are you not following a structured training plan, such as C25k?

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months, so take it at an easy conversational pace, which, counterintuitively, develops your aerobic base more effectively than running faster and keep us posted.

Yeah it’s been my concern risk of injury but I warm up and stretch first and just pace myself I feel it’s consistency that’s key to get my cardio up and a healthy me with routine.

Hi Steve4481 , if you've already been running 4 times a week then I'm guessing that C25K might look a bit easy to you, especially in the early weeks. It absolutely is worth building up gradually though.

In my thirties and forties I had several attempts at running, of the go out, run fast for as long as possible, stop and walk, try again, try to do more each time variety. They all failed.

I started C25K, aged 59, only because I didn't want to be outdone by a friend. It worked. The rest is in my profile! 😉

Hi Steve4481

Well done on taking the first step to a better you.

I'd say get the C25K done at your own pace on your own. Motivation isn't quite what you need, it is the discipline to go and do it, even when you feel you don't want to.

That, unfortunately, isn't built overnight, but you can do it.

If you really do need a running buddy checkout some of the local running clubs, some offer starter groups in and around Sheffield.

Let me know how you get on.

Thank you it’s more an all round better me iv looked at running clubs but they seem to want you to run 5 k before they can take you on thank you I’ll keep at it and I’ll just push myself out of the door to run ha. Once I’m out I feel great I’ll keep at it thank you
