Is the treadmill ok for this. Just ordered some running shoes. I try to walk 10000 steps a day if i can.
Newcomer i did my first day today on the tread... - Couch to 5K
Newcomer i did my first day today on the treadmill. Not easy ad Im really unfit. What can i expect?
Hi Davyinuk and welcome to the HU forum. I did the entire program on a treadmill so don’t worry about it at all. Well done on getting your steps in 👍
Well done on your first run! Those 10,000 steps a day will really help. Treadmill or not, running’s running, best of luck with the next run 🏃♂️😊.
I do mine mostly on treadmill and when brave few outdoor also.
Also dont worry about being unfit. Most of us are or rather were. I found the slower I went was what won the race and made it better. Ok you feel like your walking faster than you run, if like me, you probably are. That's ok. That's the best way.
Building up the endurance will amaze you. Honestly it will.
I've went from not getting up the stairs outa breath to running 25mins straight and still have breath!
I havent graduated yet but it's in my sights.
I promise you this journey is so worth it, believe in yourself.
Well done for starting your C25K journey. Your body will take a little time to adjust to the running action and the continuous movement ... Sounds like you have a good base of fitness if you are doing all those steps a day... Hey running machines are used for fitness by elite athletes , so you are I good company. Happy running.
Well done Davyinuk … I too am doing the programme on a treadmill …good luck with the programme you will do it 😊 keep us posted
Welcome. Don’t worry, run one nearly killed me 🤣
Treadmill is fine, it’s all about building then running muscles and respiratory capacity... the only difference really is you won’t have to think about pacing.
If you are struggling to get 10k steps in a day (who doesn’t sometimes) have a look at Active 10, which is shorter with better health benefits. It takes 30 minutes a day and can be split into 10 minute chunks.
Enjoy your journey
Well done for starting Davyinuk ! I always say the hardest part is to put on those shoes and just do it.
I'm starting Week 9, Run 1 tomorrow and have done the whole programme on a treadmill as I live in the Welsh mountains and I'm simply not fit enough to run up hill and down dale! I'm also still three stone overweight, although I have shifted one stone through portion control and mindful eating
As others have said, running is running, and I personally don't think it makes any difference as long as how you do it works for you. Good luck and just keep putting one foot in front of the other 👍🏃👍
So pleased to see that someone else is doing this on a treadmill! I used to do parkruns until I broke my hip 4 years ago and lost my confidence! Like you I need to start from the beginning again. I am just about to start week 2, and 3rd run of week 1 was definitely easier than the first! Keep going as you are doing great. You were doing quite a lot of steps previously so am sure you will soon build up your stamina for runs!
I did all my C25k on a treadmill, with incline at 2% and continue to use started Parkruns just before lockdown, and done one since restarting but have hurt ankle so currently not running. Plan to restart as soon as possible and will use C25k to get back up to speed.
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
