1 year on!

A year ago today I did my first session of C25k to decide if it was for me. I needed a ‘safe’ way of getting out from home with COVID-19 as I was going stir crazy. I rather assumed it would last for a few weeks until lockdown eased and normal life returned, however here I am 12 months later running 3 times a week and mostly enjoying it! I’m still not at 5k and don’t suppose I will ever get there now at my age, nearly 71, but I do think I will be running until ill -health stops me! Who would ever have thought it! So, all those who doubt themselves, take heart and persevere, you too can do it and boy, does it release those ‘feel good’ endorphins.🙂🙂🙂

Happy runniversary Ladyjogger, and very well done to you. Just keep running as much as you like, it all helps with overcoming that thing called age.

You probably could get to 5k though, just by adding 5 mins onto 1 run a week. 😉

I can do 5k but it takes me 50 mins rather than 30 mins. I generally do 30 or 35 mins per run but occasionally do the extra for 5k. My intention is to do a recorded 5k park run when they restart . I don’t think I’ll ever get to 5k in 30 minutes☹️☹️

Don’t worry about the time, I have been trying for 3 years to do it in 30 mins and still haven’t got there (in my 60s) 😂

Tailwalkers will go as slow as the slowest and I bet that’s not you. I’ve Tailwalked for 1hr 15 mins.

You're enjoying it and doing it regularly. That's all that matters. 👍

I am right behind you, in years and dates of graduation, and in NOT achieving 5K. At first I was disappointed that I was only just doing 4k, when someone encouraged me to time and track myself, but I realised I was going to constantly be judging myself, so I dumped that app. I never thought I could do any of this, and people just laughed when I said I was going to give it a try. They also were worried about my knees. I have never felt fitter..so thanks for writing your post as it simply validates my approach! (PS husband has started now, and he’s 76!!)

I replied to you as well but got fuddled with the technology ☹️ I think we should do what feels right for us individually. Laura accompanies me still on the Stepping Stones app and it suits me. Sadly, I’ll never persuade my husband to join but he does support me and makes me a cuppa about 20 mins after I arrive home. - most welcome😉

Great to hear from someone the same age!! Wonder if you... like me .... tend to run early morning when less folks around! I tried C25K a few years ago and did a few park runs then life got in the way . Just restarted .... WK6R1 tomorrow.... determined not to let it lapse this time!

I did a reply but didn’t send it properly🥴 not very good with technology. I do run early- a cup of tea and then out , Mon/Weds/Fri, I mostly use our local rugby club ground and only see dog walkers🐶🐶 . Stick with it this time, you can do it. 😊👍.

Keep going, you too are an inspiration to me that I'm not the only oldie out there. Keep us posted. If you got this far this time, you are on the home straight.

Well done for keeping it up when life got back to "normal". It's hard to understand when you are a non runner, but we C25k-ers get it: running is a life changer :)

Hi Ladyjogger, well done you! I am 70 and today ran (few seconds walk in between) 10k. Feels amazingly wonderful, it's my first 10k, I too have not managed 5k in 30mins. Just enjoy it

Wow, well done you, that is fantastic. My challenge is a 5k Park Run when they come back although my daughter-in-law, a very competitive runner!!, says that I will find it very different with lots of people around me when I’ve been used to big wide space around me! I’ll wait a while after lockdown eases to be sure things will be safe.

Amazing achievement, just continue to get out there and enjoy it.I completed C25K 18 months ago and am still getting out there roughly 3 times a week. Like you I try not to set myself any targets, I just roughly plan a route and plod. My routes are normally loops round my village so that I am never too far from home if I d feel like doing a long run. Today I thought Iight run fir 30 mins, that usually means around 4k, but ended up running fir 65 mins and managed 8k.! So you never know where your running may lead you

Well done, that’s brilliant.

Great you making me feel like a lazy pile of bones ahahha. Congrats. I feel inspired.

What a great way to deal with crazy and covid all at once and get happy while doing it. Sold ....on the run.

Your routine sounds so similar. Today it was WK6R1 and i think this is the hardest I’ve found. Actual programme ok ... mindset all wrong . Bank Holiday so a bit later starting but found it a real struggle .

Hey Ladyjogger. Meet Misterjogger. Same age as yourself 😱. You wrote earlier "I think we should do what feels right for us individually". That is absolutely spot-on 👍. I gave up long long ago the ambition to reach 5k in >30 mins. Never did it. Never will. Instead though, I found stamina and distance plodding to be mychallenge. Like other poster(s) I just passed first 10km run and felt great. OK, very tired but great. So, please do continue with what works for YOU.
