Hi all,

I don’t know if any of you remember my previous posts. I started this back in Oct/Nov time. I was loving it but then injured my right shin on wk 4. I took 4 wks out as it was painful walking and then started the program again. I found out my daughter was also doing the program when I was on wk3 and we started to run together when we could.

I hit wk4 again and injured my soleus muscle. I saw a physio but had to drop down the weeks again. The muscle healed and I carried on.

Towards the end of the program I got a sore left Achilles’ tendon. Again I saw a physio. Luckily it was pretty reactive and settled quickly between runs and after a couple of treatments and some strengthening exercises it settled down.

My daughter had also taken a break so we picked up again at the same point. Today we got together for our graduation run. We slowed the pace as we wanted to end with a 5K.

I can’t believe after all the set backs I’ve finally done it. Just shows what can be achieved with some mental grit and determination.

I just want to thank everyone who posts on here as you are all so encouraging and inspiring. You all motivated me to keep going.

I’ve added a pic of mine and my daughters happy faces as we graduated!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ†πŸ˜ƒ

Many congratulations on your graduation, fellow runner.

Repetitive injuries suggest that you may be pushing too hard.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast. An easy conversational pace is the most effective pace to develop your stamina and endurance.......faster is not necessarily better.

Yes I was probably doing that at the start. I wasn’t unfit but just not used to running. I’ve always been the type of person who pushes themselves. Mental strength and stubbornness are not always beneficial 🀣I’ve taken on board lots of advice over the weeks and I’m definitely in a good place with the running now.

Thank you 😊

Just remember that the easy conversational pace is the one at which most elite athletes spend 80% of their running time. Pushing hard always raises injury risk and, counterintuitively, does not develop your body as effectively as the slower pace
