My last run was last Monday - W4R3 and I was excited to start week 5. Then my 22 month old and I started coming down with colds - which also means that his (and my) sleep has been terrible and I have had zero energy to run.
I am still snotty (gross, sorry) but I’m going to see how I feel after work today and hopefully get back to it as I think I need the endorphins. My mental state feels pretty fragile, perhaps my body wants me to get back out there.
What would you do - go for W5R1 and just see how it goes? Or do an ‘easier’ run to ease myself back into it?
Thank you wise ones 🙏🏼

Glad you are feeling better. I would say try week 5 R 1 and see how you are. No harm in trying...it will be a great booster if you find you can do it, and it sounds like you want to. Just be kind to yourself if you do find you are still lacking in energy. It will come back.
Wait til you are fully recovered then just pick up where you left off.
As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running.
After that loss of condition is gradual.
All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.
Just to say...All your advice was spot on! I held off another couple of days to make sure I was feeling 100% better, then yesterday I went out and gave week 5 run 1 a go... and it was great! I didn’t struggle at all.
