Can’t believe I did this! The first 8 minutes was fine, felt great but the last 8 minutes was hard, started to get a stitch but I didn’t stop!! Next run is a 20 minute run so hopefully I can do that! Any tips or advice?😊

C25K - week 5 run 2
Well done.
Tips........ slow down so you can speak aloud clear ungasping sentences as you run.........which will probably help avoid stitch.

Hello BethEdwards23, I managed this transition by working hard at adopting the Japanese slow jogging technique. Others in this forum recommend this too. It's a bit of an old geezer's pace, but, it really helped me to find and adopt a pace that helped in the shift from Weeks 5, 6 and 7. I am now just about to shift from 25 mins to 28, and know that this won't be a massive challenge, as I feel comfortable in my pace. My only other bit of advice, is that I found a particular jogging route where I know that I have hit 5 mins by a particular point. It's a circular route and it helps my motivation by being able to see where I am headed and to know how many laps I have done, and have left to go. I hope this helps - good luck and best wishes with the rest of the programme
Hi what’s the Japanese slow running you mentioned? I feel I may need to learn this 😊
Take run 3 of week 5 slow and steady, once you have completed it you will be very proud of yourself, read the excellent advice from our expert IannodaTruffe regarding week 5 and particularly that third run.
I found W5R3 to be the first real test at running. I'm only a little over a week ahead of you. But my advice is to make sure your pace is slow enough you can talk aloud without having to gasp. My only warning is that after you think you've been running hours, your coach will then tell you you've just completed five minutes. After the next time check at half way you'll see that you can do the full run.
Then enjoy!!!
Ah okay that makes sense! Did you find you had to stop at all during the 20 minute run or did you complete the whole 20 minutes? After I completed the first 8 minutes in today’s run I felt like I could’ve run more than 8 minutes but the second one I found hard. I think I’ll definitely go slower and hopefully that works! Thank you!
I’m starting week 5 this week, not sure I’ll be able to do 8 mins but will give it my best effort! Well done on run 2, good luck for running 20mins..... you can do it xxx
Brilliant Well done you!! The 20 mins runs aren’t as bad as you think , your ready for it now !! Good luck 👊🏻
We’re at the same stage - I did wk5 run 2 yesterday! Like you I found the 2nd 8 min a bit harder but didn’t get stitch as I’ve been running really slowly since reading posts on this forum. Certainly apprehensive about my next run tomorrow but know I will be so chuffed with myself if I do it. Good luck to you - the slow running will definitely help!
I just did wk5 run 2yesterday, it is sent as bad as I thought but I’m running so slowly. I don’t look ahead as I find it better to not know what’s coming.
I found the 20 minute run a struggle, but managed it... slowly!! I found the second run in week 6 a real struggle but managed the 25 ok... then I repeated week 6 and felt tons better! Just started week 7!! Take it easy and enjoy the rush when you’ve finished!!
Well done on progress so far and good luck with W5R3. Advice on here really says it is about getting pace slow enough to make it manageable, which seems strange as a runner many years ago. However it is working for me as I approach W5R2 today. Looking forward to hearing your continued success.
Hi I just did it this morning feel the same as you. I’m a bit daunted by the thought of 20mins to be honest😬
How was it? Well done for doing it!
I managed the 8 mins but I was ready for the interval!
One piece of advice, and the same as others have/will give you. S L O W D O W N. It isn't a race, and the time running at whatever speed is so much more important than the distance covered.
I’m about to take on wk5 r3 today. I was like you wondered if I could do the two 8mins but felt I had loads left after the first 8min which gives me the confidence to try the 20mins. It’s a mental thing really and I’m sure I can do it. Pace is really important, slowly and more slowly is key, well that’s what I’m going for anyway. Good luck 😉
That’s exactly what I’m going to do! Let me know how you find the 20 minute run! Good luck😊
All done. Got to say BethEdwards23 it’s probably one of my most enjoyable runs to date. I paced myself and about the 10min mark I had found my rhythm and knew I would be able to finish it. Relax and enjoy it, good luck 😉
