The best running shoes are the most comfortable ones offered to you after a gait analysis. What is perfect for me may be wholly unsuitable for you.
I have had Karrimor trail shoes that started to fall apart after only a few runs and Brooks road shoes that have lasted years, although I rotate my shoes, so they rarely get used on consecutive runs.

People often get confused thinking £££ and known brands are 'perfect' shoes. Your feet have different logic and only prefer what suits them perfectly, irrespective of money or logos. Never compromise with it comes to shoes, never buy something that's not right and feels right in your opinion. That's the difference between frustrating and injury prone running - and actual comfortable running that this priceless pastime is meant to bring.
Where do they wear out most quickly?
This is a difficult question to give a fits all answer.
Most runners tend to wear trainers.
I prefer light weight semi racing shoes.
This suits me as I am a light 60kg 76 yr old and run at a brisk pace ( 5km in under 30min)
Also it depends on how your foot lands.
If it is heal then toe you are going to wear out the heal. Observe where the wear is occurring.
At the Chicago Marathon Expo Danny Dreyer gave a presentation.
His method of running focused on landing mid foot.
I try to follow this advice and avoid the heal strike.
Keep your knee slightly bent to act as a shock absorber.
I hope this helps?
I run on a mix of about 50/50 grit/mud path and road. I began my running with a couple of pairs of Brooks Ghost 7. They held up very well in terms of wear and appearance, but seemed to lose their bounce very quickly. I then moved on to Addidas Glide boost, which felt much more comfortable, and didn't seem to lose their bounce, but the first couple of pairs did eventually suffer from small stones working their way into and cutting up the midsole. The next couple of pairs of Addidas Glide Boost (a later model) are equally comfortable and bouncy, but seemed to have better protected the midsole, and these are lasting much better (still using them in rotation). My latest pair are Asics Gel Cummulus which feel as comfortable as the Addidas but maybe a little more durable. I wanted to try that Asics model for a long time but every time I tried them in the shop I was worried that the top of the ankle was too high, and where it touched my achilles would bother me. I finally bit the bullet, and find that although it still feels odd when I put them on, I do not notice anything when running. I'd say that the Asics are my favourites at the moment, with the Addidas glide boost (latest variant) a very close second.
ASICS make a very good shoe and Brooks get a lot of love but Ive not tried them yet.
You need proper running shoes.
A pair of brooks.
Everyone has their favourites .
Mine are New balance I have been wearing New balance for 11 years
I had gait analysis and then stuck with them never had blisters or painful feet
I stick to the same model but when buying go for previous number so cheaper.
Buy from sportsshoes.com
They are cheapest and if not will price match
Good luck
So. I have 2 pairs of Brooks running shoes and a pair if Asics trail shoe. Have tried karrimor in the past but they were uncomfortable.
So Brooks and Asics for me !
Thank you
