has anyone been this poor?

I am repeating week one again this week, although I should be moving onto week 3 as I still can't manage a full minute running. I am very determined, but am aware how pitiful this is, has anyone else struggled like this??

Don’t be so hard on yourself you have got up and out the door for 3 weeks now that is brilliant determination and it doesn’t matter how many times you do that ( I’m my opinion). Are you trying to “run” for that minute? Try and slow down on the runs. I think my brisk walk is not much slower than my runs!! Well done I say!! Stop putting yourself down xxx

Thankyou😀

It's poor if you haven't given up!

Do it at your own pace and you will get there 👍

I've got a dodgy knee so developed some sort of fast power walk bum wriggle that works for me- built up place and stamina and can now do 45 mins 5Km- now on Wk 9, run2 and only just adding in what I would call 'proper jogging' segments. Look up Nico Nico pace jogging as well. It's a you thing- do what you can to make it work! Just keep at it.

Congratulations on starting C25K with running the 8/1 minute runs of week 1, you can repeat the runs as often as you like, run a little slower than you have been, you are not the only runner who has struggled with the early stages of C25K, several years ago a lady took 8 weeks to complete week 1, about 4 months later she graduated from the course, so be patient, good luck 🤞.

Yes plenty, but you need to slow down much more!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

You can do this......... slowly.

Enjoy your journey.

Hello donefor! I actually find you really inspiring as you’re getting out there and facing it head on with brilliant determination 👏🏼. Even if you think you’re already going slowly, go slower, was the best advice I got, and it worked! Best of luck and happy running 🏃‍♀️ 😊.

My way of thinking is - that if the plan is to take up running long term, which for me it is, it makes no difference if the c25k takes me 9 weeks or 9 months as long as I keep getting out there to run, no matter how slow to begin with. 🚶‍♀️🙂

It took me three attempts to get beyond week 2 last year. Yesterday I did my second 10km run.

Don't give up: give yourself more time instead.

Do other activities too (eg. walking) to get your general level of activity up.

Bravo on getting out there to start with. As has ben said SLOW DOWN we dont really run in the first few weeks, mine might just be as a fast walk. Trust the programme it DOES work. Don't expect so much from yourself. Good luck and keep going the feeling when you complete will be worth it.

You will get better. Go slowly. Read the above advice. Japanese slow jogging looks odd. But it is a great way to start. Some people do it all the way through. You may think "I can walk faster than this." Of course you can. You've been practising walking nearly all your life. Running is new for you. So start slowly. You will get there. Look forward to reading about your progress. I repeated Week 1 and Week 4. Today I did my 6th 5K. I started C25K in early September. You may take longer than me to graduate or you might do it in 9 weeks from today. We are all different so we cannot compare ourselves to others. Others will always be better than you. Others are still stuck on the couch.

Oh I think we all were at the start, you need to slow down so you can keep going, snail pace is great,

Not poor at all.....totally the opposite, admirable I call it and it shows guts and determination. Stick with it, it’s not a race, you’re out there and improving your health and fitness so well done. Remember to keep the running parts to a snails pace. Try to relax and get your breathing into a good steady rhythm, nice deep breath in through your mouth then purse your lips slightly as you exhale, imagine your body is like a machine and the oxygen is your fuel. Good Luck, you’ve got this 👍
