So after graduating on Monday I was eager to get out this morning, I don’t know what happened but it was my worst run ever. I had to stop and walk half

Way through, haven’t done that since intervals

Stopped in C25 app. My legs felt like lead from the minute I started to the minute I stopped and I went the

Slowest I’ve ever gone just to make it through to the end. Frustrating when I’ve got no idea why. Onwards and upwards for Friday though.

Well done, you got out there.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

Heavy legs can be symptomatic of poor hydration. As a runner you need to drink a minimum of 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

I think hydration may be key here, I’m so bad at drinking water. I have reminders set up to drink abs I always put it off. Thanks for the tip.

This may get the message across about the crucial nature of good hydration healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

If you want your body to work well it needs good lubrication.

That was very informative thanks! I certainly underestimated the importance of hydration.

Not every run is going to be heaven, there are going to be runs that are hard or nearly impossible. Maybe you slept badly, maybe you didn't eat enough or you ate too much too close to running, maybe your body is not feeling 100%, maybe you started too fast, ... Or you just weren't feeling it. It happens, everybody has it even the top athletes.

With me, it mostly happens during the week. But I know from experience that doing a deskjob the whole day drains me from energy, even if I get up regularly to walk around. In my run yesterday for example I felt as if I was the host to an energy sucking leech. At first I was disheartened, but after a while I thought to make the best from it. So I ended up with the lowest distance ever, at least I had gone out and I had a little bit of exercise!

Very important is not to let it get you down. You might fear that the next run will be the same, but if you think that way, you might subconsciously cause it to happen too! Just think of each run as a new run, a new opportunity. Next time, you go out there and you think 'this is going to be the best run ever!'.

G'luck!

Yeah I kind of came to the conclusion it was just one of those things & I suspect I was very dehydrated too. Main thing is to not let it affect my confidence on the next run. Cheers for the advice.

Don't over think a bad run, it happens to us all. You'll have days were you are like a gazelle and days that just suck... This is a sucky day.. keep moving forward.. You got out there. That's the main point!!

Hi AS,

Congrats on your graduation! 🏆

Sadly this isn’t an uncommon feeling after crossing that finish line, and it’s completely understandable. You’ve spent the last 9 weeks building towards something and now it’s done and dusted, you don’t have that same goal to spur you on.

I’m sure it’s a mind over body thing. And here lies the importance of consolidation. You know you can run for 30mins but ultimately we all have off days - sadly it’s part and parcel of running. (I’m just 6 months in and am still learning all the time). Don’t feel too downcast if you have to cut a session short. There’s plenty of chance ahead to try again.

My fave titbit of info from Innoda about new graduates was that we have only ran for a total of around 9 hours! 😵🧑‍🎓 What ‘run’ spring chickens we are!

I can understand why some people feel a bit cast adrift during consolidation but I think the key is to concentrate your effort into getting out the door at all to solidify the habit of running. Try and embrace the simple freedom that your new ability brings! 🏃‍♀️💕

What are you goals for the future? Consider consolidation to be an important part of the long game in your run career and keep looking ahead. Have fun 🌟

Love that - thank you. That is a great statistic about the 9 hours! When you look at it like that it does change a perspective. thank you 😊

It made my jaw drop open when I read that..! 9 weeks of blood, sweat and tears and we only ran 9h?! 😅

There’s plenty to learn still but the awesome skills you already have will take you as far as you wish 👟⚡️🤩

Best of luck on your journey ☀️

Hang on in there. I struggled for couple of weeks after graduation doing those 30 min runs. Then it gradually started to get used to it. It will get easier I promise 👍🏻😀

Oh hahaha I’ve just replied to your post!! Thank you, I’ll just keep my head down and get on with it and stop worrying (or moaning 😉🤣)

😂😂 Please moan away (your not moaning btw 😉). We have all gone through it on here and we are more than happy to help. Sharing is good and not all runs will be great. I honestly thought am I ever going to enjoy running for 30 mins??? But I finally did and still do 😀
