12 months ago, having been a member of a gym for many years and gradually going less and less, I decided I was going to try running outside using the C25K app.
I hadn't run outside before, always told myself it wasn't for me, that I couldn't do it etc. With my husband's support - he decided to do it with me - I downloaded the app, plugged my music in and off I went.
I completed the programme and then was knocked sideways for three months Covid-19. Undeterred I started again, building up my strength until I was back to running for thirty minutes.
With my husband still alongside me, I now run three times a week almost every week, averaging 18k in total. I'm not the fastest runner, I've learned the hard way that trying to get faster and faster is not the way for me. But - and I never thought I would hear myself saying this - I enjoy running and miss it if I have to drop a run for any reason.
As a soon-to-be 59-year-old, if I can do it, anyone can do it. My advice to anyone just starting out is be patient, don't judge yourself against anyone else and don't give up.
Happy New Year .
