An interesting thing happened today. After running for almost 37 mins at what I thought was a slower pace, my FitBit recorded that I covered 4.43km (a little slower than yesterday but not massively) but significantly my heart rate has changed from being exclusively in the peak rate to now spending 22 mins of the run in the cardio zone. This is absolute proof of my improved fitness. My peak heart rate is now down from 162bpm to a 158. I am really happy with this development. Fitness is the main reason I started this running malarkey. It’s taken me 4 months to get to this level of fitness and I feel so happy with my progress.
I listened to the Nike Running Club cold run today and Coach Bennett’s informative ramblings really take my mind off the running. The run actually lasts for 45 mins but I had no intention of completing it today. I was happy enough with just shy of 37 mins. I basically stopped when my body told me to. I am in a good place with my running now and I anticipate that over the next week I will hit 5K. I may even try to do it next run. It will require me taking a different route over the Heath (to avoid having to run all the way into busy Camden Town) which will add another incline to the run, something I avoided today as I had a strenuous day yesterday and my legs were a little achy.
But overall I’m managing the existent inclines on the run well and I just need to give myself an extra push around the 13 minute mark to be able to push up the incline and run around the men’s ponds and then back onto my usual route. Eventually I’ll have to find a route where I can run for an hour. I’m giving myself a slightly easier time of it at the moment as the second half of the run is all downhill. I make no apologies for that as I know that doing that has enabled me to get so many consolidation runs under my belt. However, as my distance and fitness increases I won’t be able to avoid running up inclines and hills. It’s the terrain around my area. Unless I choose to run all the way into the West End which would be mainly downhill and get the tube back home. I haven’t ruled that out either.
Since I’ve been running the Nike Running Club app I’ve been listening to more sedate music and just going with whatever Spotify starts playing. A band called This Is Kit was playing today. Never heard of them and don’t particularly love the music but it serves as a good background to when Coach Bennett pauses for breath.
Onwards and soon to be upwards.
