graduated on Sunday

I started the programme in October and although I have run in the past and had tried a few times to get back to it, nothing really worked until I tried Ct5K. With the help of the running (and Michael Johnson) I began to consolidate weight loss that had begun in September and now I am obviously fitter and healthier and even though it is cold and dark, I actually look forward to getting out for that run. Every Sunday, when I have more time, I have tried to push myself further than the 5k and on graduation day felt that I could keep going further than I have in many many years. I stopped running at 10k! I am a 57 year old man whose diet was not particularly healthy, was definitely overweight and on blood pressure medication. The running has helped my weight loss and encouraged me to eat much more healthier than I have done in years. The challenge is to keep this all going but I have the incentive and a new found love of just getting out there and enjoying the fact that I am fit enough to run. For those who have just started or are struggling with the longer runs - just trust the training. It works!

Many congratulations on your graduation, fellow runner. We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.

Take care.
