Not sure about running on the spot. You can set strava to Treadmill running, so you could maybe give that a try and see if it worked. i use a Garmin watch to measure heart rate, and it is useful for checking my pace and distance travelled on the run, then various stats such as cadence and VO2max if you're into such things. Better models give you even more stats, but mine is the forerunner 235.
