Dark, wet and cold- please help me get out in the dark

On Tuesday morning. Raining and dark, I waited for day break, I handed the kids and school run responsibilities to my husband and went out. It was my 21st consolidation run (happy 21st to melee 😊) and covered 4K in 30 mins 30 seconds. I was happy with that.

I've not run 3 times per week for the last couple of weeks so I set my alarm for 6am again today to do R2/consol 22.

It is pitch black, cold and basically miserable out there. Rain is forecast the next hour and sunrise is 730am. Hubby is already at work today so it would be now or never.

Result: I have happily got back into bed. I know that if I completed a run this morning I would feel amazing and accomplished but I just cannot go out in these conditions.

Can anyone inspire me that it is actually lovely and I will enjoy myself??

(I don't have a waterproof yet but I think it's more about the dark, than the rain).

I can run this evening instead, but I do like getting the job done first thing but Autumn is against me.

I do really think that you should wait until after the sun rises to go your runs, I do have a app that tells me the sunrise times where I live, on Wednesday morning the sun rose where I live at 7.33am, I set off for my 8K run at 7.33am, so for you with the children perhaps after they are at school you could do your run, running or cycling in the dark is no pleasure whatsoever, perhaps even a little dangerous.

Thanks for the reassurance that I am not mad in thinking about this!

Once kids are at school I have to work (should be doing rhat right now... sshhhh 🀫🀭).

Will have to attempt this evening. Forecast is fair weather, might even see if TT wants to come out with me xx

I just spent Β£85 (half price) on an Under Armour waterproof running jacket so I’m totally prepared for the rain. However it was lashing down at 6 so I done as you did and turned over in my lovely warm dry bed and went back to sleep. I do regret it now though. Ah well Sunday I’ll run no matter what the weather.

Yeah, I had the loveliest lie-in and planning an early evening run tonight (although it's usuly chaos escaping at tea time with kids wanting feeding and husband arriving in from work after being up since half 4...) but I will make something in slow cooker now so it's help yourself!!

There's my plan 😊😊

Never managed to get out.

It's 1830 and sunset here. Will be dark shortly 😁😁

Damn you Autumn!

Don't forget that when the clock changes it will be lighter earlier, until we hit real winter! As an early morning runner, I'm going to have to get used to running at different times of day, so know what you mean!

I don’t run in the dark, but don’t mind setting off about 20 minutes before sunrise.. I have a chest light and it works well, I usually do the first couple of kilometres where there is little traffic, or at least where I’m not running in the road.

I just refuse to let myself think about it! Get up, shower, look forward to my cuppa and when I’m ready, assess if I’m wearing the appropriate clothing! (That’s the hardest part these days πŸ˜€). I don’t like running in torrential rain, but this morning, it wasn’t raining heavily and it was only a 4K run so I didn’t wear my jacket, which is sometimes too warm. Once I started running I didn’t notice the rain! πŸ˜€

Hi Jools. Yes, its not the rain so much as the dark and dismal... I quite like the rain. Just when I'm tired and it's cold outside it doesn't seem so appealing.

Yes, I think a more cut-off attitude would help.

I absolutely get where your coming from !

When you find the answer , please share it with me ! 😐

One run at the weekend and then maybe you could go out during lunch break? The clocks go back and that buys a little more light and then it will be the Christmas break and as soon as January is underway you will notice the light start to return

The joy of being out in all weathers is that you will be super aware of the tiny seasonal changes
